any easy tricks to make hp for 1.6 soc vtec?
Bisimoto cams are not necessarily cheap, but they are a good way to make power. Bisi is the SOHC god. Go to d-series.org if you get tired of H-T hate on the D.
TURBO!
my buddies eg w/ d16y8 on 28 pounds of boost runs 445whp and 10.8. but its not cheap... d series will take some money for power

no ones hating were all being truthfull
b18c JDM swap in my Sol soon
i advise you follow, then you can sell your sohc to a ricer and tell him its good for turbos, and you can get almost a rebate on your engine AND your not lieing

you didnt even answer his question, he wanted cheap HP, not you telling him to get a turbo, he probly KNOWS a turbos gunna make it fast

90% of H-T users aren't good enough drivers to justify getting a B-series when a D will provide plenty of thrills without the $2500+ needed for a swap.

I bought my GSR swap for $2,100 and it has CTR pistons, a ported head, CTR cams, skunk2 valvetrain, ACT stage 1 clutch, AEM fuel rail/regulator, AEM cam gears and a few other goodies on a fresh rebuild and put down 204whp.
Try to find someone that just wrecked their teg or Si or something, and just jump on it when you get the chance.

ill probably get bagged on for this **** but weve gotten a few horse
exhuast wrap the exhuast, a diy gasket match on any port and throttle body you can think off, sand cast things tend to be off. a b16 tb as long as its not the obd0 Ithat requires some modification and is 2mm smaller than all the other b seires)
if you have the block, machine some oil galleys down. (endyn recommends we used their **** as a guide). uhhh, boring th engine makes some. so does milling the head and block to a certain length.
ive heard tb spacers do something but then again it was from a ricer
removing a/c and ps remove some streess on the crank which will see minimal gain. serious with all that youll be lucky to see 3-5 horse

before i swapped my b16 in my eg i had a Z6 with intake, header, exhaust, fuel rail, and a cheap stage one cam and it would run or outrun integras except gsr's. i had like 500 in it but like i say it was a pretty quick lil bastard for a civic ex NA.
my car ran pretty good when it was an all motor y7 (before i built the turbo motor) but it wouldn't be cheap to do that again unless you found really good deals on everything.
It was just a stock bottom end with ARP rod bolts, arp head studs, milled and ported head, skunk2 valvetrain, delta 272 cam, skunk2 intake manifold, a crappy dc header, aem short ram, b series throttle body and some other little BS and it went 14.6 @ 92 on street tires.
9200 rpm was a ****** blast out of a single cam LOL

that car i spoke of above redlines at 9700.... more to keep the turbo spooled then to make power.

I've read so much bullshit on this thread it's unbelievable!!! A fully built B18C1, turbo kit, nitrous, etc... these are NOT cheap or easy by any means! Stop giving people information they didn't ask for. The OP wouldn't have asked a question like this if he was prepared to do something so extreme.
Cheap, and effective mods on a D:
Header (most gains you will get from a bolt-on, just go with a decent brand name)
Intake (Cold air, ram intake, it's all the same for the mildly modded D)
Cat-back Exhaust (ONLY go with a decent brand name, if you want quality sound)
*Note: Cat-back exhaust is a downgrade for a mildly modded D. Only do it if you want the sound.
Suspension (Won't give you any more power, but the performance gains will be more effective than any of the power adders I've mentioned)

Only thing I agree with is suspension....
I/H/E will not get you very far...
A decent header will cost you a shitload of money...
A CAI and ram air setup are not all the same... where do you want peak torque to be? Although, if this is the only mod, it won't do too much...
How is a cat-back a downgrade unless you're getting a system with too big piping?
Bottom line: everything works as a SYSTEM... decide what you're going to use your engine for, and design your modifications around that plan.
