Car and Driver tested a supercharged Y8 back when it first came out, and they recorded 160 hp at 6900 rpm and something like 145 lb-ft at 3900 rpm. they ran a 15.6.

is that power at the wheels or at the crank? if at the wheels, then that's pretty decent for a supercharged y8.

With proper tuning and fuel management you can get the SC'ed Y8's to 160 at the wheels.

i've had experience with a sc delsol with the d16z6, basically the same thing i'd say. the torque is awesome!! pickup is so fast it'll take some turbo cars by surprise. I've beat some mustangs with this combination and it is pretty darn fun on the streets due to the always available torque. Don't forget, horsepower is nothing without torque and vice versa off course. the supercharged combo will give you a nice combination of hp and torque. and there is always that boost upgrade kit for 9 Lbs of boost from jackson racing.
I think this user has one for sale: scdarksol. might wanna send him an im to check it out.
as for blowing it up in two years, any engine blows up faster when boosted. turbo or sc. it all depends on engine condition, type of driving, and mileage of course.
all in all, both turbo and sc have their advantages. do some more research before you decide. my opinion is that torque is just as important as hp.

What was your setup? Anything special for cooling?

Turbo Charged D Series at 8 PSi put down almost 200hp to the wheels, why supercharger
Supercharger on a D series = waste of time and money.
Supercharger the B or H Series those are a better choice to do.
Keep the D series Turbo or Nitous you will be much happier.

Re: Anyone have a Supercharged D16Y8? (Quad-Damge)
I have always had my mind set on turboing this engine but when someone said they would sell me this supercharger for cheap I just wanted to know how much power it makes and at what psi. I do think I will save up for the turbo and thanks for the replies.

NOOO, do not spend that kind of money on that motor. Spend that money towards a motor. You will appreciate and enjoy it much more.

with a turbo he'll have more power for the same money than a engine swap.

That is the way I think about it. Everyone says to swap but I think this little motor has a lot of potential. Just trying to decide the route I will take.
