it wasn't torqued down during the install. just get under the car and torque it down.

actually it's his explanation is pretty simple. he's looking for his gears, meaning just that. never had gear trouble before huh?

there are only 2 bolts to be tightened up.crawl under the car and u will see them.and also FYI. LS and GSR shiftlinkages are the same
or there is another situation that happened to me once, exactly the same problem that u encounter now....u got the seal boot installed upside down.what i mean seal boot is number 11 in the pic shown below or u are missing number 8 in the pic shown below

this is not his case.
#11 was upside, you wouldn't be able to put the shifter in, and even if you can, it would be clear as day that it's wrong.
and part #8, yeah, if that was missing it would be nearly impossible to drive your car. i had this break one time so i should know.

Did you use a "Bitch Pin" I know people say you can shove a bolt in there and it will feel tight but it will never be as good as a bitch pin. Make sure all your bolts are tightened, Maybe your bolts that hold the linkage to the body fell out, there two 12mm bolts. Goodluck

looks like the people who did the swap shoved a del sol linkage in there. along with the rubber boot a plastic ring is shot. the bushing for the stabilizer bar is what really broke and was making the shifter sit on the exhaust.
i am currently in the process of reparing.
