how many miles should i put on my motor before i put 5 psi on it ? h22 mahle pistons eagle rods with t3/t4 turbo kit.

 

I would do at least 500+ with a couple of dyno oil changes in your brake in period.

 

Miles? I'd wait 5min. Honestly
All the engines I've broken in lately have gone like this...
Start up - tune to clean up idle and let it come all the way up to temp.
Turn it off - Drain oil, and pull the filter...Cut the filter and check for debris.
Fill back up with oil and a new filter and hit the road.
The idea is not RPM's but load. Our engines are not that of the 1960's. Metals and machining are muuuuuuch more precise. I've read (i can find the source if need be) that most of the cross hatching in a cylinder is actually worn off within the first 30min. This gives you a small window to seat those rings. The cams and everything else should be find...10miles or 10k.
The last engine this was done to was a 4G63. Luckily..the ecu was already tuned..but right after the second fill of oil that night..we took her out and did Highway Load Pulls up to 130mph at 10psi-15psi. That thing has run solid from that day on.
I did the same to a friends B16 Turbo and a Toyota truck I built last year.
Assuming you have a base tune, I would do the same. Start it..drain and fill and then take her out for the "Break In"
Focus on putting a lot of load on the engine and not just flat out revs..it should take a bit to peak the gear.
After a good twenty or thirty minutes..take it back home..drain it and cut that filter. If all looks good, fill it back up and enjoy your new engine.
As always..error on the side of caution. Check to make sure everything stays tight, sounds and looks OK. Any sign of trouble, shut it down and take a look.

 

I just got my motor running 3 days ago b16 built. started it up. got the Afrs around 14 get it warm up held rpm's at 2000 for 20 min.. took compression check 160 across the board.. and then went and put 15psi to it an hour later. This method is to inform yea the 500 mile deal is not all ways true.

 

Start it up and let it run for a while, change the oil and you should be set to go.

 

well it sounds like most who posted do your own tuning.

Asumming that he cant or wont be doing the tuning. It'd be wise to fire it uo na and run it at like 2000rpm for 25-30 min. swap the oil and checking tthe filter is a good idea like was metioned. then taking it easy for the first 500 miles. Change the oil again, slap the turbo on and tune to whatever psi youre planning to run.
