Used Greddy Turbo Kit - worth it?
Application here is a 1998 Civic DX with the stock D16Y7 motor, I/H/E installed.
It's been a while since I've made any substantial mods to my car, but I've come across a friend locally who is willing to part with a Greddy turbo kit (15g), as well as a TRUST intercooler, 2.5" down pipe, Eclipse BOV, MSD fuel pump, FMU, xsTurbo boost controller, and boost gauge for $500. It is a couple of years old, and was pulled out in working order. The kit is essentially complete, outside of a few cheap auxilliaries.
I realize that this is for the Y8 motor, but I imagine I can modify it with relative ease to fit my application, as the header is essentially the same.
I had sort of intended on going to a JRSC at some point in the future, so I'll be honest and say that at this point I've not read up very much on turbos. I think, though, that I might just jump on this now. Any thoughts?
Also, as this will be a used kit, can anyone point me toward a complete set of installation instructions?
Thanks, guys.

Correct. I would add in a set of 440cc injectors and a decent EMS and you should be fine.

I've come to find that it is actually a TD-04H-15G kit, which is intended for install on a 92-95 Civic. I myself own a 98, for which a different kit is available (TD-04-19G). Any idea on the differences between the two?
Also, what is the issue with using the existing fuel pump and FMU? The answer is probably obvious, but it's not occuring to me.
Also for future readers, complete installation instructions can be found on Greddy's website under the "Tech Support" heading.

I know nothing about the SOHC engines, so keep that in mind. What I do know is that one of the differences would be the fuel management with the original kit, and that's something the person you're buying it from didn't use. He used an FMU, which is obsolete when you consider all the engine management solutions Honda owners have the luxury of using. As I understand it, fuel pumps are lubricated from the factory when shipped. Aftery they're used, they need to remain wet. Besides, even if this wasn't the case, why take a chance on a critical part that you can get shipped to you for less than $100? Injectors are a different story, you don't have to get brand new injectors, although you should at least get them flow tested if you do get used ones. If you need choices for this service, let us know. There are plenty of saturated 440 injectors around so you don't need to bother with a resistor box.
I'm really shocked that Greddy actually updated their website to include installation instructions. Every once in a while people ask for this, so that's good. By the way, I checked on a couple of websites I had bookmarked from years ago that had installation instructions, but they're gone.
You'll have to create a post asking the differences between the two turbos. Greddy doesn't allow access to their specs.

Thank you all for the help thus far.
It sounds like this could add up quickly, and that the $500 would be the tip of the iceburg I'd hit. Between parts for increased fuel delivery, tunability, and the tuning service itself, it appears that I can essentially double the $500 I'd pay for the kit in order to have a viable setup.
Any comments?

Boost is expensive.

i would just swap to a B16 motor.... cause eventually u will get bored of the turbo too... It doesn't make much power on that motor. But 500 is not really that bad. if you don't want to swap a motor than get the turbo... By the way. don't get a JRSC. they suck. Good luck man

Ive seen 12 second turbo sohc, and i have a buddy that made 237whp/194wtq with a JRSC. So, by the terms of it SUCKING...it would all be relative.
