Default Oil Pump Keeps Breaking

Not sure if this was the right Forum but i figured since it's drag related more of you would know about this and have info for me than in the 92-00 forum.

I'm on my 4th Oil Pump Already, keep breaking em. 2 were broken on the dyno and one at BOTI Sacramento. I ordered the ATI Super Harmonic Balancer Damper to try it out and and see what happens.

any ideas on why i keep breaking em? Made 741whp and 500tq.

its a very touchy subject that oil pump breaking issue lol....IMO put a external system in and dont look back!!!unless you are running a certain class that dont allow it...then id still put the pump in and say to hell with that class ..i learned my lesson after poping 2 motors and 20,000 down the tubes usualy when the pump goes the motor isfubared, head ,cam ,turbo, rockers, crank, rods, pistons ,etc i put a external few years back and have had no issues what so ever and those are my 2 pennies on that subject

Is the pump shimmed? If the pump is shimmed too much ,it could possibly causing it to break. What is your oil pressure at WOT?. Maybe your crank is bent and the harmonics are causing it to break.

was the block line honed? if so, by who?

when originally talking with stewart engines about my engine program, was right around the time the big dogs of spfwd were constantly breaking oil pumps. i obviously wanted to avoid that and jim was confident he had the answer.

sure enough, 860whp and 2 FULL season's later....im still on the same oil pump and the same motor.

I would say harmonics would play a part in the pump, What kind of crank pulley are you running? I have seen people use aftermarket pulleys with no harmonic dampening abilities cause oil pump and also rod bearing failure

What damper where you running? I see pumps break from the harmonics of the twin disc. An ATI damper usually fixes it.

I ran that same clutch and was breaking oil pump gears. I switch to a Fludampr crank pulley and have not had a problem since.
