? For those of you that haul 2 cars
I see a lot of guys pulling 2 cars to the track in what looks like trailers that aren't big enough for 2 cars LOL
. For those of you that do, how long is the floor space in your trailer? It also looks like a lot of guys are pulling with trucks that can't handle 2 cars and a 30-36 foot trailer.
I was looking at 30-32 foot tags today and 36-40 foot goose necks and it looked like I could get the Insight and a Civic in a trailer with 30-32 feet of floor space, but it would be tight and there would be no room for tools, generator, compressor, etc... It just looked too tight for me.
I have a new Duramax diesel 3/4 ton that is rated for 13K lbs. I was concerned about the weight being that it is a single axle and the trailer guys were like "Heckynaw you can pull a 45 fooooooooooter with that" Heh...maybe empty. They had a 36 foot GN that I liked a lot, walk on roof so I can do cannon ***** off the top, and it weighed 7100 lbs empty. I figure my car + tools + cart would add up and get above 10,000 quickly. 2 cars, no way...not enough floor space and would be pushing the weight.
I saw the Utah guys had a shorter trailer with a lift this weekend. What was the length and what did that thing weigh? Also, how did it pull with the height and weight up high behind a pickup?
One other question for those of you with goose necks... I like how they pull much better, but man that really eats up a lot of space. A 36 foot GN really doesn't have much usable space. Lifting heavy things up and down from there would be a pain. So am I better off to buy a tag that is just a few feet shorter and keep the usable floor space, or go ahead and get the longer GN trailer and just deal with lifting crap up there?

I haul two cars and have lots and lots of experience with different set-ups. For a long time I used a 42 foot gooseneck trailer with a dodge dually. Worked great. I could put two cars in and have room inbetween to strap them down. The trailer I used was 42 foot long and had 36 foot of floor. The area above the gooseneck is very handy and you can put a ton of stuff up there. I carry spare parts, tools, spare wheels, ez ups, chairs, everything and put it up front. The gooseneck distributes the wieght nicely. Also, here in california we have to stay under 65 foot long max and I was at 60 foot long.
By the way, that trailer is for sale right now for 12 grand!
Then I bought a toter home and used the same trailer, but my overall lenght was too long. So now I am using a 30 foot stacker trailer with the toter and it works great but is too big to tow with a dually.
I am the NHRA announcer and saw you at Indy, You have the Mfactory car, right? What hapened, you didnt make the call to race Leslie first round.

you will need about 33-35ft of floor space to strap down 2 cars and still be able to get between them. I had 37ft of floor and had room to strap my tool box in the front. A 40-42ft gooseneck trailer is about the minimum for 2 cars.

We haul 2 dsm's with our 44 footer. Although we don't have a 4 wheeler yet, there is a few feet of extra space inside the trailer. I guess it all fits pretty good. We bring a lot of stuff to the track as well.

We have a 32 foot tag that fits the cars and two spare tranny's, generator and a small tool box. We usualy take 2-3 bins full of spare parts and fluids but they go in the back of the cars. Gotta love hatchbacks

I broke a trans on 3rd qualifying pass after the burnout and didn't have a spare. We had a couple other things to change also that we learned there that day. Monday I got a new box in the car and now have a spare. We should have made the call, but just didn't have the parts
Thank you for the nice comments by the way. We greatly appreciate it.

I may not have it by then and its looking like a 44 foot trailer and 2 cars might be too much for my truck. I will still have this 24 foot trailer that you are welcome to if you have something to pull it with. I need to figure out some weights and I'll let you know.

Yeah that is too much for me. I think I'll go back and take a look at that 36 GN. I was just hoping to be able to bring someone along if anyone was wanting to go just to add another racer. We also have a K car that makes enough power for SFWD, but would just need some safety equipment. We were considering getting it ready.

we got a 40ft goose neck, and honestly to keep the weight over the axles or as close as possible, its a pretty tight fit. thats the thing you have to remember also when measuring them out is to try and keep the most weight over the axles... even though its tight, its a perfect fit, we also have alot of stuff that hauls also. with a cummins dodge 3500..
IMO you don't want any GN smaller then a 40ft. It's amazing how much stuff you need to bring to the track, just in case.
Yes we could put 2 cars in ours, but I really wouldn't want to. Like rota is hinting at, get a dually. If you plan to travel to races you'll be much happier. Look at the bigger picture...
rota looked at trailers for a few months and stumbled into the one he bought, it was like 30 minutes from the house.
We also kept are 18' open trailer to move the car around locally.
Just thought of this, can you get a Suburban with a duramax and 1 ton. You would have room in the Sub for lots of stuff and get a long Tag with a good hitch set-up.

The 1 ton Suburban is rated to tow less than my 2500HD. Not only that now I am back into a tag axle with a bunch of tonque weight + the extra weight of the suburban cab and all my junk in the back.
By my owners manual a 1 ton dually with the diesel is rated to tow the same as my truck. I obviously know the dually would handle more and be more stable. Maybe I'll just grab this 36 GN and say screw pulling 2 cars. It isn't really a priority.

Nice to see you have done your homework. I wasn't sure there was a one ton Sub.
Yes worry about yourself and not what might happen.
We all try to help out when we can. But to buy something bigger just because you may one day want to bring someone's else's car, doesn't make good financial sense.
Our's is 10 years old, tow's well and now everything works. We had to put a new battery in it for the breakway brakes. I can't remember if your buying new or used.

It seems like people selling used trailers think real highly of their stuff
LOL
The new ones I looked at yesterday were less money and higher quality then the one I purchased 3-4 years ago.

I have had a tag trailer and a goosneck, the gooseneck will pull better and straighter, no weaving, I have a 48' and I can haul 2 cars, large tool box, 4wheeler and spare parts, ice chest ect. and still get better gas mileage than a tag trailer. Plus if you price a 38 or a 42 ft, you can get a 48' with plenty of room for not much extra. I paid 14,300 for mine with aluminum wheels and 2 steel spares and it was brand new. just my 3 cents

Dang chuck thats a killer deal. Is it pretty stripped down? A 36GN is about $14K here and its not stripped, but certainly not loaded with features.
