I got confirmation today:

What was the purpose of the T4 rule? Was that to keep the class from running the larger volutes from the T6 frame sizes?

I believe so, back a few years ago when we first started running the 42r stuff in Hot Rod, most of them came with the T6 turbine housing. I guess NHRA wanted to stop a problem before it started.

yep, cant have anything larger than a T4 in certain classes

Now there is no way to regulate what volutes are used. Not saying that they should not let the vband style housings run. After all we are making them also. But I was wondering how they are going to keep everyone honest in the class. All that has to be done from this point is to use the larger vband volute with a legal compressor size. It opens the door for making more power. Maybe they should take away the T4 rule. This will put everyone back on an even playing field.

because it's our housing that is legal and we only have this size v-band (every other housing we have uses the smaller t3 sized v-band)
the rule change wasn't for all v-band housings it was for the TiAL housing only

if someone wanted to run a different one they would have to clear it with NHRA/NOPI etc.

You didn't answer my question. You know as well as I do that a/r is relative to frame size. If you get a smaller a/r vband housing but in your larger frame size it will flow more. The T4 rule was made to keep the class close on the exhaust flow. How is NHRA/NOPI going to keep things fair? It would be easy to get your larger frame size unit and put it on a legal compressor section.

NHRA and NOPI only regulate the inlet cross sectional size, nothing more, you could run a 1.55A/R housing if you want.
want more flow? run a bigger A/R nothing in the rules that prevent it

Well your housings will be very good for SFWD class. Can't wait to see some numbers.
