Default Wanna be Hybrid but have a problem...

"OK, here's the situation.....my parents went away on a weeks vacation...."

Oh sorry!!!

Here's the deal. I'm picking up a hatch this weekend but my problem is I don't know which one.

The first in which I've already looked at: 1996 silver CX
Totally stock. No A/C, no stereo, notta!!!
68K miles on the soon to be tossed engine.
The car is pretty flawless. Owned by an elderly couple.
Asking $5500.

The second I am going to see in a few hours: 1995 white DX
Has A/C and tape deck. The ad does not mention mileage but says looks and runs excellent. I used to have a 95 CX so I'm a little partial to this car.
Asking $4600 or b/o.

My dilema:

I will need A/C after a swap. (I want my wife to be semi-comfortable on spirited drives) Now which would be easier? In other words is it easier to do a basic B-series swap into a vehicle that already has A/C? If not, then what other parts are needed to get A/C in the car that didn't have it in the first place?

Also, I currently have a silver 98 EX coupe with a CTR lip and silver Slipstreams so I can easily transfer this scheme onto the 96 hatch being it is the same color and everything.

Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

EG or EK?
i would go for the DX because it already has AC, its cheaper.

I miss her so very much!! I'm taking a look at it tonite, as long as it's in good condition (obviously regardless of mileage) I'll take her home to meet the family!!

love the 5th gen hatch, mini tailgate. you cant go wrong with that. real easy to do swaps, almost idiot proof. i had a hard time with a 6th gen.

You don't want to go throught the hassle of adding AC to a car that's not fitted with it already if you can avoid it - remember you'll need the controls, the condenser, evaporator, all the lines, etc... can be a big pain in the *** and costly as well. Get the car with AC if that's important to you.

Well I have a concern. I drove by the 5th gen. and it's advertised as a 95' but I noticed it has a different front bumper on it. It's the one that only has the one airdam in the middle similar to a 96-98 Civic.

Am I going crazy or does this "95" really have an older bumper on it. It just looks kinda sketchy to me.

The only reason why I'm gonna take this into consideration is because an engine swap will be in the future and figured if I was to do the A/C conversion it would be at least a little easier going in at the same time as the swap.

Do you think it'll still be a difficult process?

Thanks!!

My opinion (for whatever its worth)

Go with the DX. I love that body style. the swap is totally PnP and you don't have to F' around with installing/charging the A/C system

so the bumper only has the one big opening? a 5th gen 4 door is like that and if the car was in a accident someone could have put that bumper on there and trimmed it to fit.

when looking at cars to but always go with your first opinion, if you think it looks sketchy dont get it for sure. dont try to sit there and think its not so bad just pass it up and go on to the next one.

Thanks peeps.

Like I stated before I'm partial towards the "EK" due to the fact that I now own a coupe in silver so I'm gonna just use the CTR lip and rims I have now.

I'm picking her up tomorrow. I'll just have to be a man and deal with no A/C. I'm gonna try to talk the gentleman down to about $5200 or so. Not a bad deal.

Oh yeah, no car payments is gonna RULE!!

who cares about factory AC

every come comes equipped with either 260 or 460 AC

260 AC= 2 windows down 60mph
460 AC= 4 windows down 60 mph
