Default VTEC??

I got a 1.5L that finally craped out and I ordered a JDM 1.5 VTEC with 46,000 miles to replace it.
I was told that it will work perfectly with no modifications if you had the 1.6 vtec or SI but I don't and was wondering first off what ECU will I need and will I need to change the harness to make it work?
Also can anyone tell me how I can make sure it is actually VTEC?? I've never had one and don't know what to look for but all the 1.5 VTEC engines don't seem to say so on the valve cover and anyway it's just a valve cover so it's easy to change!

The engine is suppose to be here in the next 2-3 hours so PLEASE help!!

OMG
you can tell it's a vtec because of the magial vtec nipple on the left of the valve cover.

but you don't really know what that is soo

and if the motor will be there in 2-3 hrs, i think it's a little late to be shopping for the correct ecu, don't you?

There will be a VTEC solenoid. It's a funny shaped thing with a greenish cylindrical top on the left side of the engine (when looking at it from the front) right next to (closer to the firewall) the distributor.

As for alterations, you need to wire up the VTEC solenoid wire and the VTEC spool oil pressure check sensor - 2 wires, go into I think A4 and D6 (respectively) on the back of the ECU. Just wire them directly, it's two wires, don't bother buying an EX harness or some stupid crap like that, just wrap them in wire wrap or something.

Here's what the solenoid looks like:

NOTE: It's on the other side of the distributor (closer to the firewall) on a D15

Here's a JDM D15B

Right under the valve cover breather you can see it. It has a big green plug on it too (oil pressure check).

Hope that helped some.

Yes that helps very much, thank you! Also "instrument" I didn't say I was putting it in the car in 2-3 hours I just wanted to make sure they delivered the correct engine! Thanks for the reply anyway, So is it the P28 ECU that should be used?
I have a P05 in the car and a PM5 lying around but I know those won't work. So which ECU is needed?

Interesting, never thought of it like that. It's probably like ford's ZTEC.

^Ah, that'd be a no on the VTEC for everyone concept. LOL

You can use a converted P06, P07, P08, and the good 'ol P28...and I'm sure there are others too!

Thanks for the feedback, also does anyone know the code for manual on the ECU?
for example if you had a P 28 (manual) what would the rest of the code look like? thanks,

if you dont want to get a chipped ecu then you can get either a p28 or a p08. either one will be fine.
