d15 engine knocking
thanks for reading, i cant seem to figure out my problem so i thought maybe i can get some pointers.
every time i start my 94 civic hatch w/ d15b7 i hear knocking possibly from my lower block (where i believe the noise is coming from) and when i accelerate i hear it louder. after driving for five minutes or so it seems to go away, and if i drive my car soon again i wont hear it, only when the car sits for hours until i start it i'll hear the knocking. any idea guys? thanks.

mine did the same exact thing, and still does it. it seams to happen when its colder outside. it has always done it and i dont think its anything to worry about. i owned it for over a year and it was ran pretty hard. never bothered it.
You're sure it's from the block and not the head right? Mine makes noise in cold weather but goes away when warm. Here's 2 vids showing what I mean.. And how's your oil by the way?

i have a slight oil leak from under my engine, nothing serious, it seems to be my oil pan gasket but other then that the oil is pretty fine.
the thing is, is that im in chicago and its no where near cold right now and i havent been through a winter with my car yet.
the noise in the videos from your d16 didnt quite resemble the ticking my engine makes sageuvagony, any other ideas?

Ticking is usually just valve chatter, especially if it goes away once the engine is warm. Try doing a valve lash adjustment.

thanks for the info guys.
if the ticking is possibly coming from the fuel injectors should i replace them? is it costly?
and what is valve lash adjustment?

haha, not even close to being possible, a spun bearing will be a VERY pronounced KNOCK, not a tick, and it wont go away when the engine is warmed up.

You shouldn't replace the fuel injectors, they're just loud in some motors, it's not an issue. I'm still pretty certain that you need a valve lash adjustment. It's the process of adjusting the valve clearances. If you don't want to try doing it, most shops can do it for $50-$75.
