Default 99-00 Civic Si distributor

I bought a distributor that came off of a 99-00 civic si. the top of the cast housing has a rubber plug in it that looks to have a broken end. What is it?

Is there a hole that went through? Could be for aftermarket tach's or MSD packs. Dist. dont come with vents.

it's definetley a rubber grommet or plug of some sort. why would anyone drill a hole in the casing like that? would any of you have done this for any reason? would any aftermarket components require this mod?

Yes they do, that little plastic nub in between the plug wire connectors is a vent. Its parallel with that bottom screw in the pic he posted.

To the OP:

It kinds odd to see a hole like that. You could tape it up and not worry about it, but I would take it apart to see if there is any damage inside that you don't know about.

MSD systems have two wires that need to be ran into the distributor, but must just carve a small portion of the rubber where the wires go in, and stick them in there that way. Where that hole is it looks like the wheels would hit whatever when in there.
