A/C gurus I need some help again! Defrost light on /w AC light
ok im battling my ac again...ne ways shop wants 180 to fill and test so i tried 1 last attempt my self. bought 1 those ez chill retrofit kits. went to start filling it up and almost immediately the gauge on it goes to 100psi (danger zone) i know for a fact the system was fully emptied prior to this. i tried to slowly fill it a little more and then i noticed my rear defrost light came on. Now anytime i turn the AC light on the climate control the rear defrost light comes on. why? Whats weird is while filling and it goes to 100 psi if i unhook it and hook up a diff gauge (same company) it reads like 15 psi, but wont let me put more refrigerant in and the compressor wont spin. any ideas im trying to get this thing working summers almost over but the days are only getting hotter and hotter. I just got done pulling the climate control and checked solder points they looked good i could tell someone already been in their b/c almost stripped screws and solder debris on circuit board. i cleaned the debris off and put back together but im still getting the same problem. any help is appreciated i dont wanna take it in and pay 180 bux if its actually a problem with wiring
This just happened to may a few days ago, my A/C compressor seized up and snapped the belt, metal shavings were all over! I decided to go with a shorter belt that bypasses the compressor, since the car is old!
what were the symptoms you had. i never used my ac never culd get it to work. now im getting the car painted and tinted i wanna have the ac working. any one else got ne ideas?
When I bought my car, it didn't come with a/c. I bought a new compressor and the freon stuff. My first attempt ended up with a blown line. The gauge read it was full but I couldn't feel cold air so I kept on till it blew. I bought a new one from honda and tried again. This time I connected the compressor directly to the battery and it worked. I then connected everything back to the way it "should've" been. Turned on the car and diddly squad. So I just left it alone.
2 years later I decided to give it another try. I found out I needed a new expansion valve which is like $75 at the dealer. I went home and installed it. I tried it and nothing. I started to look for any signs of bad wiring but nothing. Well I kept on until I decided to put a fuse in every slot under the dash to see if it did anything. Went to turn the car on and a big blast of cold air hit me like a freight train. I was so excited I sat in my car for about an hour just feeling the fresh air. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't give up. Its easy to overlook the simplest things.

when you are filling the system up you should have the car running with the a/c on full blast(on the 4th fan speed).after you start filling it up a bit you should hear the compressor kick on.then just keep filling it up in till the gauge says its full(like in the middle of the full zone).dont fill it up in till its really close to the danger zone but still in the safe zone.i did that and and the next thing i knew it jumps to the danger zone and my compressor start struggling and making some clunking noise.make sure you do NOT overfill it.
as for the defrost light thing i have no idea.i would not worry about it in till after you get the a/c system filled up and working.after you get that working it will probably go away.

yeah thats the thing it wont fill. i sat there and tried filling and filling and 10 mins later the can still was 3/4 full. and the compressor clutch wont kick on.
well i got the defrost thing fixed dunno how but my fuse decided to jump into a diff slot...but it wont let me fill with refrigerant. it jumps to 100 psi but i think its just b.c the valve isnt opening so the pressure builds up in the hose coming from the can. any ideas? do i need to loosen or take the valve out of the old r12 fitting?

is your system R12 or R134a?
also did you try jumping your compressor? if your compressor is dead then you would not be able to full it up because the compressor is not kicking on. if you try jumping the compressor and it kicks on then it is of course not dead and if it doesnt kick on then that is your problem,at least some of it.

Mine was the compressor from the start! The A/C worked okay until the compressor stop engaging. The all I heard was metal scaping sounds from it. Then it just seized up on Monday and snapped the belt. I'm going to replace it one day, but for now I'm going to bypass it with a smaller belt.
you're not going to get the refrigerant into the system if the compressor is not on. maybe a little, but it's not going to take all it needs. ac isnt something to mess around with in your backyard. take it to a professional, or bring it to me haha. or just someone with a recovery machine. i am actually certified in ac.
well ill check connections again but its worked last time i filled it with some but i didnt know the fill amount of the system so turns out i only had it like half full when gauge was saying it was full. so i had all the refrigerant taken out and took it to have it tested but they want to much. ima mess with the wiring from compressor tomorrow to try that. i always thought the clutch wudnt engage unless there was enuf refrigerant in the system.
ps. lol i work in the front yard

correct,it will not engage in till it has a certain amount of refrigerant in it. thats why you jump the compressor to find out if it is dead or is still good.when you jump it and it kicks on do NOT leave it running you can ruin it if you do.
