Ok lol, this is pretty funny.. but im not sure exactly what the problem is, so hopefully you guys could help me..

when i turn the windshield wipers on, usually in a non effed up car, yuou can turn the windshield wipers off anywhere even if they were at the bottom or top and they will return to the button, now with my car, you have to turn them off whereever you want them to stop

anyone have any idea what the problem is?

i was told possibly the motor, but then it wouldnt work right? or the switch..

anyone? thakns

 

That's usually a result of a bad delay box or wiper switch. How does the delay/intermittent function work?

 

Is your car a '98?

I recently had this same problem with my '98 EX. There is a TSB out on it for the '98 year.

The return switch breaks inside the wiper motor. You will need to get a new wiper motor.

Actually, wiper issues of all sorts are usually caused by the wiper motor oddly enough.

edit: and what is a tsb?

how do i replace the wiper motor? i can get it cheap, just need to know how to replace it.

Not "usually."

We've seen wiper failures caused by motors, transmissions, and switches across the range of Honda/Acura vehicles.

Technical service bulletin, an internal Honda bulletin that informs dealers of known problems in certain vehicles and of updated parts or repair procedures.

Remove the wiper arms. Remove the clips that hold the cowl cover in place to expose the wiper transmission. Remove the bolts that secure the wiper trans and unplug the connector for the motor. Remove the bolts that secure the motor to the trans. Pray that they aren't seized, because they will break.

Make sure that you get a motor for the specific body style of your car (2dr/3dr/4dr). We've found that not all '96-00 Civic wiper motors & transmissions are interchangeable.

I was talking about cars as a whole, not just Honda/Acura. And yes, if the wipers are acting goofy, the problem is usually the motor.

The assemblies are the same on coupes and sedans, but hatches are different. Coupes and sedans are the only ones affected by the TSB.

Btw, what do you mean by "transmission"? I can only think you must mean the linkage (the metal arms that connect to the motor). I've never heard it referred to as a transmission.

Yeah, sometimes they do break and that causes an issue, but I've seen a lot of cars with variable delay speeds have the delay box go bad and make the wipers act funny upon stop. Though it just kinda hit me that '92-'00 civics don't have variable delay speeds so I don't even think they have a wiper box.

So yeah, I'd go with changing the motor because of the return switch change, also.
