96 F22B2 axle install question
Drivers side, or long axle if you will.
When I removed this axle, there was a very small gap between the inner joint and the transmission. When I install the new axle, I hear a click but there is a 20mm gap between the inner boot and the transmission. I don't know the names of the parts, but inboard of the boot there is a cylinder that I am pushing on. I am pushing so hard my 210lb body is sliding across the pavment.
Any thoughts? Any tools? Should I just have someone hold my feet down?
The replacement axle is a Duralast from Auto Zone. The part number is 8037.

I did a same replacement on my 95 F22B2... I got mine from Autozone also, but I didnt' have a gap. In fact, it fit perfectly... I would suggest you return the CV joint for another one... They might of made a mistake... I work for a autoparts company, and they make mistakes everyday.... Just a suggestion... oh, I work for Parts Plus, FYI..
So reading the instructions for the parts, they are very generic. However, they do note not to pull both axles at the same time or the differential gears can fall out of place. Holy crap is that scary stuff to this noob. So looking in the short side, there I can see a brass tube-like thing laying at a 45 degree angle, beyond that I can see the long transaxle. It doesn't look like this part would stop the axle from going in.
this is hard to describe over the internet I realize but your driver side axle should go into an intermediate shaft (the shaft that has 3 bolts holding it to the block) that then goes into the transmission... so your saying you have a gap in between the intermediate shaft and the halfshaft you just got (but when you pushed it in place it snapped and would not go any further?)?
sorry just having a little trouble understanding.

also can you easily pull it back out or does it seem like it is stuck now? cause if it snapped you could just be hearing metal on metal hitting or it could have actually be the snap ring on the end of the shaft (though that should not be happening because it has to bottom out in the cup to seat the snap ring)?
There is no intermediate shaft. There is an image here: http://www.dslreports.com/foru...ement
The images are from the short side. In the larger image you can see the axle is not going into a shaft. You can see the side of the transmission and its cast aluminum case.

I can easily pull the axle out. There is a click though.
BTW: the short side axle shaft spline that enters the tranny is 2.5 inches long. The brass object is roughly 2.5 inches back from the opening. So I am only getting this part to the c-ring guide, not into it.
