Default No oil, put oil in.. oil now leaking all over the place.. HELP!!!

Ok, my d15b2 constantly burns oil. It has over 270k KM and the previous owner really didn't do a good job taking care of it. I usually top the oil off every 2 weeks or so.

Well I guess time got the best of me as one day while I was driving I saw the oil light flash for a split second. I go home, check my dipstick.. nothing. So I buy some oil, put it in.. and figured all was good. I noticed driving around I smelt heavy amounts of burning oil. I was scared.

Today I see puddles of oil on my driveway. I look under, and it appears to be dripping from the oil pan. I jack her up, and notice there is OIL ALL OVER THE PLACE! On my cat, all over the oil filter and axles... Oil filter was tight and so was the oil drain bolt (I mean, last time I did a tune up there was no leaks anways)

I'm stumped, does anyone have any clue as to what happened? I can't seem to find exactly where the oil is coming from but it's constantly dripping off of the oil pan, maybe from the oil filter? Is my oil filter blown?

My d15b2 leaked oil just like that before I pulled it. Maybe one of your seals is shot or your oil pan gasket?

Your best bet is to just clean everything up. Start the car get under there and try to locate where the oil is coming from then.

I'll try to clean it all up, on further inspection it only appears to leak when the car is on...

Wellp, cleaned it all up, started it.. looked under.. there's a hole in my oil filter! A stream of oil was leaking right out of it! Thank god... I really didn't want to change any seals/gaskets...

I guess FRAM is to blame since FRAM makes Honda's oil filters now right?

well at least its not a leak or something broken in the engine itself. just an oil filter and easy to replace.

I was gonna say, that location looks exactly like where the filter would spit oil out. Change the washer too on the drain bolt. I should practice what I preach

My oil pan wasnt screwed down tight enough, see if that helps. wipe everything down and wait overnight, that will give you an idea of where its coming from. btw, degreaser works like a charm on oil

I thought so too, I just broke two of my oil filter wrenches (one rounded out and the other one bent!!!).. I don't remember tightening it that hard, but it was quite the bitch and I still havn't gotten it off... Safe to say, I haven't been more pissed off in my life than today (did I mention I got pulled over and ticketed for driving my brothers car for the all of 2 minute trip to the bank)

Haha, I actually bought a Motomaster (Honda was already closed), but my brother has a spare K&N on him, maybe I'll try that.

could it be the filter o-ring off the old one stuck on the motor and you double o-ringed it? I've seen this happen before.... for leaky cars, I know the feeling.

When I first bought my civic I went to change the oil and could not get the damn oil filter off. Would not budge.

I ended up pounding a screw driver through it and turned it out that way.
