Default Six Sigma Racing Might Mouse K-20

Since i got the car put back together i had a chance to build a decent motor a k24 block factory 99x87 bore high compression that made 295hp 213tq. Got a chance to run it at the last CMI even testing on Saturday got 3 decent pass in going 10.6s and 10.7s @131 mph then on the 4-5 pass i sheared the second gear slider and i couldn't get in second for crap. Make a long story short i didn't have a replacement transmission and i over revved the motor a few times trying to get it into second then on Sunday during the first elimination pass i broke #1 rod bolt and the rest is history.

This Pass weekend i had to whoop something together to make it out to the BOTI race at Sac. I got a hold of stock k-20 type s Block courtesy of Mr. Dave Nguyen of DNR performance it had spun bearing, so we did a semi rebuild replacing the crank to get it to be operational.. I couldn't get a stock type S head in time so i was left with only one option. I pulled the head of My k24 race motor that was ported by DNR and slapped it on the stock block. Based on what people say about k20 head being excellent out of the factory and that the is little or no improvement in putting a ported head on a stock type S block. I was a little skeptical that it was going to work. Since i was already putting this head on the block there was no point in running factory cams I went ahead and test fitted the Stage 3 skunk cams that i had in the k24 motor on the motor as well. After i got everything down with all rockers locked up on High cam i went and turn the motor over many times to check if it cleared the factory valve pocket.. The minute i realized that it had enough room to work i went ahead and put the motor back in the race car...

Here is where it gets intersting we throw the car on the dyno Saturday night at around 8 o clock we do a base line pass it lays down a decent 220 Hp. In my head im thinking OK at least we didn't lose power of a stock motor. My partner Derek starts playing with ignition timing and this motor starts coming to life.. Hes tuning the car while I'm loading the trailer i run in every 10 mins or so and this motor keeps making power. Every 20 30 min i come back and this thing is making 5 more HP. i come back into the dyno room at around 9:30 and its at 248Hp 168.. he makes one last pull and this thing goes crazy.. 253Hp 171TQ.. I'm thinking in my head.. No %$#@ing way we finish the car up and i ask Derek is there something wrong with the dyno he says he doesn't know... We pull the race car off and throw a street car that we had that dynoed at another location on a 248 dyno jet which made 224Hp and retuned it and ended up with the same power on our 244 so we knew this was not a fluke. I just told Derek lets just load it up and see what it does at the track tomorrow if it's really making what it's making..

Heres what it is
Factory k-20A2 type S block
DNR ported type S head
Skunk2 high compression standard valves
Skunk2 Springs and retainers
Skunk2 stage 3 K-series cams
TWM 52Mm throttle bodies
440 injectors
custom SSR 20gauge 4-1 race header w Meg
on mix of 100 and 91 octane

we show up Sunday car goes
11.03 @ 126
10.85 @127
10.97 @128
car weight 1550 with driver
I know the car has more in it somewhere in 10.6s

I know it's no fluke the MPH don't Lie... It's really makes me think how much more i could of gotten out of my other motor if it didn't let loose

From this weekend

1550 lbs with driver lol....but i agree, your other k24/k20 setup should have been able to run low 10's and maybe even high 9's in perfect conditions and more seat time. Also i guess you busted the "k20's dont like ported/built heads on stock k20 block" myth...(253/171)..Oh yeah, what rpm's were you shifting at? With stock type-S tranny?

I want to have intercourse with that race car chassis...

Yeah weight in a 160lb ... Some may think that 9s is easy to run considering that all the top pros are running deep in the 9.4s but it takes a lot of clutch, and transmission and tire tunning to get a car to run that fast its something that i'm now finally looking into.. yeah i busted that myth..like a myth buster.. i spun this little motor to 9200 because at 8900 i had to shift into 5th gear with a 05 type S tranny which had the 4.7

Nice dude. With that kind of power norris was able to run similar times in his race car when he first started out. Your on the right track. 10.6 sounds about right

And yea those numbers are beleive able with a tad bit of headwork and tuned.

Ive seen a stock k20a2 make 250whp and 170tq. Freak motor with no headwork.

So your in the semi normal.

I thinks its awesome how people throw motors together at the last minute and everything works out. Working into the weeee hours of the night to finish things up. Thats hardcore.
