'91 Accord won't even crank
Ya, I'm new around here, but not to the scene lol,
I've been searching and have found most people that have a similar problem. Their's is intermittent, while mine just wont even crank, they had a main relay problem.
it was starting fine and runs smooth but now i have to push start it, Batt is fine, radio and dash all come on fine, now, Ill push in the clutch, and turn the key to start *5 speed*, nothing happens, for a second, then the radio will come back on. I thought it was the starter and solenoid, but took those off and had tested at autozone, and it passed. I just bought the car, and theres an old starter in the trunk, so thats why i figured that was my problem... but it passed too.
The spring that goes on the clutch pedal has come off, i dont know how since i cant get it to go back on! man you need some power to compress it.
I thought Clutch switch but i put a nut and bolt on the pedal assembly cuz there was just a hole there, but it doesnt make sense, because when you push the clutch in, the switch up there isnt even in the hole. let go of the clutch, and the switch goes right into the hole. now im thinking i should take the nut and bolt i just put in there back out.
I stepped into autozone after work to check some prices, and came back out to start teh car, and had to call my bro so we could push start it.
i gotta work tomorrow at 11am , i guess i should try the ign. switch, and that sounds like a pain! its gotta be something simple though. please you late night creepers, i need your help.

Did you check the clutch switch itself for continuity? So what if the pedal isn't pushing the button - if the switch is stuck open it won't start.
Then check if you get battery voltage at the starter signal wire when you turn the key to 'START'. If not, work upstream from there.
Check the big connections to the starter.

I would not do that, and it will not solve the problem. Do what JimBlake said and check the clutch switch. It may just be out of position.

That may cause the starter motor to run but not push the pinion gear out to engage the flywheel teeth. Depends on which bolt you're talking about.
Be careful. It's pretty easy to short to the starter housing or the transmission case. Then you could fry something.

Have you ever been able to start the car with the key? Did you modify something and now it won't start? You may have a weak battery, itf the lights go dim when you turn to start... It is also possible to have a LARGE voltage drop in one of the cables/clamps.
My old service manager thought you could fix a ground cable with a paper clip. He said, "It's just a ground, there isn't any current there"..............

Haha, ya, inorder for the guy to sell me the car i had to be able to start it, and i haven't done anything to the car. im 90% sure its teh switch, and thats a B*** to do when all you have is haynes... anywhere that shows it? do i have to unbolt the computer thats coveriing up there? It looks like there are 2 switches... so, i bet its the harder one to get to since thats the way things go right?
once i get to that switch, i should be able to test it... but i dont want to get into it too much... specially since its 103*F outside! ID RATHER JUST SELL IT AS IS!

i mean the clutch switch... it looks like theres 2 switches up in there. theres a bottom one that is going through a whole in the pedal assembly that is easy to see and another thats farther into the mess... any writeups?
I think the hole in the pedal is supposed to have a rubber plug in it to depress the clutch switch, check at the dealer about that one. A piece of it may be laying in the floor???
When you turn the key to run, your radio and idiot lights come on, what does the idiot lights do when you go to start position, I too am thinking clutch switch (rubber plug) then ignition switch with better info.

Even if they're combined, at least electically there's 2 switches.
One switch closes right as soon as you begin pressing the clutch pedal. That one cancels cruise-control.
Other switch operates farther down in the pedal stroke. THAT's the one that interlocks the starter. It may operate thru a relay, not directly on the starter signal circuit.
