Default wiring an external tach....

i just bought a auto meter sport-comp silver tach. i know how to wire everything, i was just wondering if there is a wire i can tap into for the one wire that goes to the neg. on the coil. i don't want to have a wire ran across my engine bay to the distributor, is there one i can tap into at the ecu or anything? maybe even in the dash? thanks

Tap into the tach wire that goes to the gauge cluster. If memory serves, its blue.

If you don't want to tap into the guage cluster, try the blue wire on the distributor, only one there... can't miss it.

no , i wanted to put it into the gauge cluster so i didn't have the wire going through the engine compartment, and also the car is a 88 dx, while the engine is a 95 civic ex. the tachs have a little brown wire and orange wire that are in a small loop. it says if it is a 2 pulse 4- banger to only cut the orange, and if it is a 1- pulse 4-banger to cut both. i remember that on my dx my old tach had both wires cut. what is the new engine?

ok, i have the black, red, and white wires all connected correctly. i have the orange and brown wire cut, i have the green wire connected to the blue wire on the distributor, haynes book says this is the neg. coil wire? the black and yelow is the pos. i have tried with the brown wire connected and apart. when i start the car it flickers on 0 and the light comes on, then it goes to 900 and stays, doesn't read rpms.

and i cannot set the shift lite.....it is a sport comp silver 5" autometer tach. somebody please help me......
