i put a tach in my gauge cluster from a SI and i wired it myself.. i have a ground and a positive and the tach wire which i ran to the blue wire coming off the distributor.. it works fine until about 4 or 5,ooo rpms then it starts goin wild it goes up or down really fast.. the engine is normal but the tach is off.. why.. did i put it to the right wires?

It's something in the connection at the blue wire. Either it's loose or you have a problem with the blue wire on the ignitor being loose...

If you used a T-Tap, make sure the tap fully penatrated the wire at the Distributor. If you just wrapped the sender wire around and taped it. Use a T-tap or better yet, solder the wire...

A good connection is crutial for the correct reading..

It turned out my ignitor wires were loose...See the Helms for the connections and how to tighten the connectors...

ok.. ill connect it differently .its just wrapped around it.. it is the blue wire right? thats the right tach wire? also if i just cut it off at the distributor and just only have it run to my tach will it hurt the functions of anything else? cause it goes somewhere with the harness but my car didnt come with a tach in the cluster??

I think your suppose to tap into the wire next to the distributor, not cut it and wire one end leaving the other end hanging.

right. make sure that your connection is only tapping into the wire, not cutting it in half. strip back the insulation with a knife, and solder your tach wire onto it.
