Wheres the tech in that statement?
OP- I dont think thats te best idea to keep it that way. The crush washer is there for a reason-If i were you, id get a few peices of cardboard, and some computer printer paper peices, and in yourdriveway lay them down and run the car for say 10 minutes, and then let it sit for a few hours, and see if tehres any drips./ if the bolt loosend

The entire point of the aluminum crush washer is to protect the threads in the oil pan from wrench-wielding airheads.

"Really tight" is not a torque spec.

The drain plug is supposed to be torqued to 31 lb-ft. No more, no less.

im well aware about his constant posting after buying the car- but that doesnt mean you have to belittle him. simply report it to a moderater if you feel the post isnt necessary. stop trying to be a ethug.

Targa- i never knew thats what the crush washer was for - i thought it actually had some sort of sealing property. I know there like ten cents each, but in theory you could just put the bolt in and torque it to 31lbs and itl be set?

I dunno, one or two of my rod bolts seemed to hold okay when I tightened them to "really tight" . . .

I forgot to put in the rod bearings though. But they haven't spun yet, so I guess I'm okay.

Until you pull the threads out of the pan and have to lay on your back in the mud at the junkyard, picking a used oil pan . . .

It will hold, but definitely seep oil. Even just reusing the old one will cause so seepage. Customers come in all the time after having their oil changed at Jiffy Lube or Valvoline where they reuse them and they are almost always seeping.

It helps the drain plug keep an oil tight seal, just like fuel filter crush washers keep the lines from seeping. Tight seal is the entire point of the washer there buddy.
