ya, so i when i bought my car (about 2 months ago) it came with hubs so i figured it was never bought with the stock rims and i just recently(last night) got my hands on some stock civic rims for the year 2000 same year as my car, and when i put them on i tightened all the lugs and then i brought it to fill the tires with air. BUT i noticed while i was driving the front 2 wheels were making this terrible grinding noise as if the rim was rubbing against the brake caliper

so my question is any hints or tips to reduce the damage or anything???

 

Have you taken the wheels off and checked to see where the grinding is occurring?

 

should have no problem with them rubbing? is ur car lowered because ur new rims are bigger. but i think there may just be something small rubbing that maybe u bent or fell it the way of the rim travel just jack ur car up in the front put it in nuetral and spin each tire to find out which one is making the noise and then go from there.

 

well hmm the thing is while i was driving to get them filled it seemed as if the grinding began to get less as they rubbed more, and now it can kinda almost barely hear it but i can "FEEL" the rubbing which is kinda weird

did u paint the brake calibers when u took the rims off. if so u could have goten paint on the roters and its just wearing off . but yeah jack it up spin each wheel and find out where its coming from

@cmiller219 well see ino where its coming from its coming from the front 2 wheels, but i cant understand why, theres nothing under it, they are stock rims so they shouldnt be any bigger or smaller than my hubcaps i had, so i just dont understand why im getting the sound btw i hear it BAD when im turning

I don't see how that could have anything to do with the rims.. Maybe your CV joints are rubbing against the rims just like my back bumper rubs against my windshield.

 

um saying you have 2000 civic rims dont help at all. do you have a picture of them?

the rim is rubbing against the brake caliper, making the grinding noise.

you can either run a spacer so it clears, or grind down the calipers a bit for clearance.

 

no, sry i didnt clarify earlier i lifted the car and put it in neutral along with ebrake and began spinning the wheel and at no time did it make the noise EXCEPT when i turned the wheel all the way to the side then it started to make the noise.(plus the rim JUST clears the caliper only by like 1 or 2 cm tho lol but its not hitting it, and if it is its grinding down so ohwell)

you need to change your axles. This happen to me before. so yeah change your axles, the problem solved.

 

It could also be your dust shield rubbing

 

those are known as hx wheels they are too small for your car, they dont fit ex rims without rubbing grab the angle grinder man

 

.... now that i think about it the rims didnt exactly come from a 2000 civic im pretty sure it was a hx so i think that mite be the problem

 

they make 2000 civic hx's you know that right?
