Default OT:OEM Tranny Availability

Word is that Honda of Japan has stopped mass producing the tranny for the B- series engine. I always forget the tranny code. Let's say you went to the dealer and you need a new tranny, would you be up a creek? Or would you still be able to get parts to repair what ever needed fixing?

I believe you can still buy the parts but the whole tranny assembly has been discontinued.

A car company must keep making parts for cars that are still considered to be in circulation. They don't have to make full motors and trannies, but they have to make the parts to service them and such.

It's like buying stuff for a 92Si Motor from honda, they have the stuff, but in limited amounts, and only certain things

Honda discontinued the ITR crate motor in early '00.
The part number for it was S1000AP79000
Yes, that is a weird number but trust me, its right. I bought the last one.

Regarding transmissions, they are still backordered. At least until mid-September.
Same with shortblocks. No availability for a while.

For 10 years they are required to support the vehicle.

Man I am glad I bought my ITR trans when I did. I bought it in February '00 new from Acura. I ordered it on Monday and it was @ my place of work on Thursday. Not to shabby. They said there were only 7 in the states @ the time also! It doesn't hurt that I worked @ import auto salvage @ the time......

Was told to me at Carlex that it was 10 years. After that aftermarket companies kept it going. 10 years does seem a bit short since that means 91 vehicles are not neccessarily supported. Check some parts at a dealer. I am sure high selling parts will remain available beyond 10 years. Anyone know how hard 1982 civic parts are to come by from the dealer?
