Default MPG question 00 hatch

so i bought a 2000 hatch about 3 months ago for a good MPG car and
so far its been not living up to what i expected. i was thinking at least
30-38 mpg and the best ive gotten so far is 26 mpg and i cant figure out
the reason for the poor fuel economy. i changed the air filter fuel filter oil change and alignment tire pressures are always at 35. car has 84k on it and its all stock. with the exeption that its lowered on blades. should i go after the plugs wires cap and rotor next? oh yeah its an auto as well.

If you drive like an ***, that MPG is normal. Try the distributor cap/spark plugs/wires

Changing octane on a D16Y7 is just going to waste money. Stick with the low grade stuff. You don't need anymore and using premium is just a waste of money.

Why did you get an auto in the first place? If you wanted to save a little more gas you should of gotten a MT.

Manual will help.

I'm betting the issue lies more in the air/fuel department.

Replace the fuel filter and the primary o2. Even if you're not getting a cel for the o2 sensor, having a newer and more accurate sensor can make a big difference.

I Vote for the "its an auto" therory. Not like the 5sp aren't friggen slow enough the auto is like packing 5 fat guys in the car and maybe some weights in the trunk too

as for the a/f issue. i have already ruled that out because the LTFT is fine +6% and +/- 20% is spec. so that is fine. i think im gonna do plugs wires cap and rotor. and maybe a bottle of injector cleaner. who knows.
