Default rear disc brake question (searched)

ok guys, i have a 94 ex and my friend gave me gsr rear disc brakes. i didn't get e-brake cables but i think i can get some from an em1. now the question is about the prop valve... do i have to change out my prop valve to accomodate the rear disc brakes? if so, which car can i get it from? most likely i'll be picking it up at the junkyard so i need to kno what car. would 94-01 integra prop valves work? i see those cars at the boneyard a lot so it would be cool if they did. thx for the help in advance guys.

yes, when you swap from drum to discs, it is best to use the proportioner that was meant for it. BUT it's not the end of the world...you don't have to do it right away since most of your braking is done by the front calipers

a non-abs 94-01 integra valve proportioner will work (40/40). also, the 90-93 integra (40/40), 88-91 crx si (35/40), 88-95 si.

Yeah its a good idea to switch the prop valve with a teggy one or equivalent. While your at it, and if you have the money and time to do it all, go ahead and get a master cylinder and brake booster of off a integra. It will help with the whole system becuase the piston inside the master cylinder is bigger (15/16 vs. i think 13/16).

Make sure that the lines that come out of the integra master cylinder look the same as yours (when i was looking for mine I noticed there were two different versions, probably for ABS and non-ABS)

on the side of the master cylinder it will have the size it is stamped on the side. If it says 15/16 you have no need to change it. If its 13/16 I would go ahead and do it.

yes, 90-01 integra (except itr) & 88-00 civic w/ rear disc calipers all share the same pads and 9.4" rotors

i used integra dc2 e-brake cables. came off my friends 5lug setup. just picked up my prop valve today from a 4door da. says 35/40 on it. loos like the bracket to mount it on the firewall may be different tho. looks like some weird torx screws holding it together... like a torx with a dot in the middle. i'm sure i'd have to change out the bracket for it to work on my eg right?

Did you have to modify them?

hey guys... i got my prop valve from a da... and it was mounted on the pass shock tower. lookin at the bracket... it's definately different from the one on my civic but the prop valve looks the same. there's some weird looking torx screws with a dot in the middle holding on the bracket. does autozone sell a tool for that? i was trying to drill a hole in the middle of one of my torx but the bit wasn't good enough

rule of thumb:
Quote, originally posted by BrakeExpert>>"When you go to bigger caliper than use a larger piston, you are pushing more fluid through the brake lines. Therefore, you should want a larger master cylinder to push this more fluid. General rule is…with your stock Civic DX, with the stock front calipers, keep your 13/16” MC. Any bigger and your pedal will be too stiff."

*since you are doing a rear disc conversion, you will only need to upgrade your valve proprotioner. the valve prop does NOT need to be replaced right away, i know plenty of ppl who have done rr disc swaps & didn't change out their prop yet. YOU don't need to do the valve prop swap right away since most of your braking power is handled by the front brakes.

*your 93 civic ex should have 10.3" front rotors, EX calipers w/ 15/16" master cylinder. if you have 9.4" rotors, then you have DX calipers w/ a 13/16" m/c.

*op,.. i read you tried to drill out torx bolts??? aw man, don't do that! dats da wrong ones bro. the bolts you want to remove are 2 bolts on the black colored bracket, which attaches the valve prop to the firewall. if the bracket bewteen the 2 valve props look different, you can still use 1-out-of-2 of the bolts and mount it on your firewall. you're going to need a flare wrench to take the lines off too. handle the brake lines with caution, they're fragile & bend/break very easily (pita to replace lines = re-flaring). plz use extreme caution dealing with the brake fluid as well, it'll strip your paint & eat your flesh, it's toxic (next to nuclear).

again, really not a big deal if you don't replace the valve prop...your drum prop will work fine with your rr disc calipers. most of your braking is done with the front brakes.

I was thinking of doing this too. Is it worth the effort?
