low oilpressure
ok so heres tha deal, i just built a ls/vtec w/ weisco 10.1 compression pistons, did valve work on tha head, but yeah.... so on n so on, changed bearings n put the motor together, had no vtec for a while n still no vtec, all the oil lines for the head from the block are ran correctly, i had 10/30 motor oil in it n changed to 20/50 for a thicker weight. when i changed oils it helped oil pressure about like 4psi but not alot, i ran a pressure test on the back of the block n i had around 5-10psi at idle n at 3000rpm i had less than 25psi, also i did a pressure check on the head for oil n got NOTHING, i changed oil pumps to a (used)vtec(gsr) oil pump, when i start the car n it warms up the oil lite will pulsate w/ the engine, changed oil pressure sensors n didnt do nething. anyone have ne ideas? bad seals? crank(hopefully not)? bad oil pump? bad oring on it?....ect neone help me?
thnx
thnx
Why and the hell are you running 20w50 oil? Are you looking to destroy your oil pump and oil filter? That oil pump was never designed to pump oil that thick. I'd like to hear your explanation as to why you are using such heavy oil...
Wow, I have to agree with slowcivic2k. Running oil that thick is a very bad idea. Don't tell anyone your logic on running that oil because you will have a thread 5 pages long of people telling you how stupid you are.
Anyway, if your vtec isn't working check to make sure you have it wired correctly. If your electrical knowledge is as good as your ability to select the right engine oil, there are some problems to be found there.

my car is doing the same thing...i have a built ls/vtec...brand new everything...car ran great with 440cc injectors...day b4 dyno day i wired in my 1000cc injectors and since then i have no more than 75psi of oil pressure during full throttle....vtec solonid is good, checkd the screen its all good...just not enough pressure...im using royal purple 10w30...i dont mean to thread jack but i didnt want to start another thread about the same thing...
so people please help us out!!!

w/e on the oil thing^^^^^^^'s but i HIGHLY DOUBT its the wiring, everything on the wiring is good, but i have checked justbout everything elese possible, but as u see i had SHAVINGS in my oil like crazy... so im prettysure it has something to do with the crank or connecting rods.... oil pressure comes from your crankLMAOn sc34dx its cool i dont care.. helps more than one person out, when i find my prob ill let u know but ne one wana throw ANY IDEAS let us know. what can cause low oilpressure?
shavings in your oil...you know what that means??? bearings are done...fortunatly i didnt have any shavings im my oil...one thing i have reasruched is that the speed sensor could possibly affect the vtec from engaging...when i was getting dynoed i threw a code which turnd out to be the speed sensor...i hope someone else will read this and help us out....

Like MatterMatt and I just said, you are running WAY too heavy of an oil. Its probably taking a good 5-8 seconds for the pump just to pick up the oil, no to mention if your bearing clearances are correct, good luck pushing a thick oil into a small space like that, it will eat all your bearings up due to starvation.

ok well yall dont have to be such ****** bout it, it was an idea so i tried it, but i did pull the mainbearings just now n they look fine, but the connectin rod bearings, it looks as if i spun 2 of them so... lol n i didnt have a gasket on the oil pickup peice, but i cleaned the filter n im gonna order new set of bearings for my connecting rods n see how it goes
We are not being douches, Honda uses 5w-30 old because that is what that pump and the clearances in the oil system were designed to have pumped through it. I have, and I'm sure MatterMatt has seen a car or two at one point have an oil filter explode due to stuff like that.
Instead of just replacing parts, make sure you find out what caused it, or else your gonna be doing that all the time.

Thats as stupid as using a headgasket sealer to stop a leak. If oil gets hot, cool it back down. If the oil is getting hot enough that it cannot stay in grade, you have more severe problems than maintaining oil pressure.
Id like you to cite specific examples....

DURRR!!! But do you know why they are destroyed? Probably not. What good is replacing parts if its only going to happen again?

Oil is formulated to maintain its lubricating/cleaning properties at higher temperatures. Synthetics and racing oils maintain viscosity at even higher temperatures for longer periods of time. Using a synthetic or performance 5w-30 is way better than 20w-50 which is far too thick for the oil pump, vtec locking pins, solenoid, bearings, etc, etc.. 500whp, but not for long. I know of plenty of plenty of people that make 400+, but I wouldn't take advice from 90% of them.
