Default GSR cluster swap.

car: 91 CRX SI
motor: 94 JDM B18C
tranny: 94 Y80 w/ LSD

I'm getting a GSR cluster for obvious reasons but had a question.

Instead of de-pinning and re-wiring my stock cluster harness to work with the GSR cluster, wouldn't it be simpler to just get a GSR cluster harness and solder the wires to the e-VSS from the Y80?

Logically, it seems as simple as that. But all the write-ups I read discuss de-pinning and re-wiring to get things to work. I think it's because they are using their stock cluster harness? For example:

any help appreciated

Default Re: GSR cluster swap. (91.crx.si)

people de-pin their stock cluster harness connectors, and re-pin those wires into the new connectors (in your case, the GSR cluster connectors from a GSR cluster harness)

your tranny probably came with an electrical vss in it, but your oem crx cluster needs a cable vss

to make a long story short, your going to need to de-pin your crx connectors and re-pin into the gsr connectors, and some additional wiring for the electrical vss which should have a power/ground/signal wire going to it
