Default I have searched and still cant find exactly what im looking for...Best setup for stock gsr?...

Hey, I have searched and just cant find exactly what I wanted for my setup. I basically wanna go cheap all motor. I wanna get all the basic bolt ons. Put some performance cams, springs, retainers, and whatever else I need. I basically wanna get it were i can make power up to somewhere in the 8k rpms safely, have a daily drive that idles smoothly, I just dont know where to start or what to get that is absolute best for my setup.

Thanks

Rather than trying to go "cheap", I'd first invest in a good header, intake, and exhaust setup. After that, you can assess how much further you want to proceed. Well chosen bolt-ons can provide better results than throwing on a bunch of marginal items.

i got a k&n filtered short ram, dc sport headers, and stock exhaust(I am going to get like a apexi n1 or something). I am just wondering what cams I can get to still have power up to 8500 or higher then what springs retainers everything else I should get to handle that.

cams that make power that high running on stock compression are going to suck everywhere in the powerband. all motor is not cheap so throw that notion out of your head right now.

Lesson 1 (write this down):
Fast + Cheap = Not Good
Cheap + Good = Not Fast
Good + Fast = Not Cheap

Why do you keep asking about making power at 8k+ rpms? Your ECU will NOT allow you to spin past 8100, maybe 8200. Period. Even when you're up in that RPM range, you're there for a couple seconds, then it's time to shift gears putting you back in the mid to upper 5k RPM range where you will fall flat on your face because you spent all your efforts trying to make power at 8500+ rpm. The RPM range that you have in your car now is perfectly fine. Throw some cams of your choice in from one of the hundreds of companies that make them (JUN, Toda, Buddy Club, Skunk, Crower, to name a few) and you will have increased USABLE power through a lot of your RPM band. If you want to take it to the next level (which it doesn't sound like you want to do), increase the compression with new pistons and while you're in there, throw in the valve springs and retainers that you seem to have your heart so set on, upgrade the ECU and you can spin it to 10k RPM if you want. Good luck finding cams that will take you there.

If all you are looking to do is do a couple exhibition revs for your friends, then go buy a motorcycle.

Don't let the hate get to you OP there is alot of it in here. As far as i know you want to do this on a budget not cheap. If you already have a header and an intake, i would think about getting some valve work done. Port and polish, if you have the money for new components this would be a good time to put them in. Also you have to get your car tuned for all the new parts you're going to be putting in. It's not plug and play, after they go in you'll probably have to find a dyno and get a good tune. This why people don't want you to get cheap parts, mainly because most of the expensive ones have some type of tuing adjustment so you can get your moneys worth out of your part. Don't expect to see huge gains going with a N/A set up, you'll spend more on it than a turbo kit and install and have less power. But your motor will be closer to "new" so if you want to turbo in the future you're motor will have a better chance at holding up to it. But have a plan first either plan for boost or don't becuse the setups are totally different

Do you know what you're talking about? Valve work? Port and Polish? Yeah that's great on a budget. And tuning? On what, a stock ECU? No, of course not; he'll need a tunable one. Crack that engine open and you're looking at $500 minimum at most shops. Nothing better for the budget than spending $1500 to get that extra 3 hp at 8500 rpm. Don't mistake my reality check for hate. Call it tough love, you internet engineer.
