Hastings Ring Gap Issues!!?!???!!?
So i went to check the gap on these new rings and the top ring measures 0.018'' and the second rings measures 0.014''. Honda recommends 0.008''-0.014''(Top) and 0.016''-0.022''(Second). I can file the second ring and make that work but what about the top ring? What should i do?
These came with a set of RS Machines 81.5mm pistons.

I bought 81.5mm RS pistons as well, my top ring gap measures 0.019" to 0.017" and 2nd ring 0.016'-0.017". No filing done either, my machine shop says they're okay to run as is.

Yeap.

Well they were hastings rings in an Arias bag. But i think Arias uses hastings rings so they would be hastings either way.
And im pretty sure i dont have the rings switched around. The top ring is the shiny one and the second ring is the flat black one right? Im pretty sure thats the way ive always done it in the past but i have never used hastings rings before.

That's a good look.

Neither ring looks like those but i am assuming that is because they are after market. The ring i assumed is the second ring wont fit in the top ring location so i am pretty sure that i have them in the right spot.
yeah i think the thicker one wont fit in the top so u shouldnt mix them up. those are good rings i dont see how there's too much gap. did u have it checked for eggshape, and tapper
Yeah. This is a fresh bore and hone. Taper is within spec and so is cylinder to wall clearance. I have measured everything with a coordinate measuring machine at work which is accurate down to the micron so i am confident in my clearances. I am going to give hastings a call tomorrow.
