Default ls vtec help ???

my buddy and i have built a lsvtec for is car, it runs good but we got 2 problems

1: when vtec come on, it run 2 rich, we get a lot of black smoke from the exhust but only in vtec???

2: after 3000km sparkplug r tost ??? we are using Iridium IX

here is his setup

b18a block, hot-tank and bord to .25
b18a rods, shootpeed and blance
b18a crank, posish and re blance
pr3 usdm pistions(new)
new ring and barings
b16a sec gen head re built with all sknuk2 parts for high comprssion
skunk 2 pro camgears
b16b (ctr) in and ex cams
chiped ecm( vtec at 5000rpm and 8200 cutoff)

pls help

is ecu chip programme for that car if not maybe the progamme is for aggresive cama.this would bump up the fuel when the vtec engage. try stock ecu see what happends.block smoke ussally mean its rich

yess the ecm is chiped for a ls vtec, well we may be going to the dyno on friday they will do a new chip on the dyno

any help for the spark plug ??

Use NGK standard plugs, the bkr6 or bkr7 es. With those pistons, your compression is decently high so I would use 7's, not iridium plugs.

And yes, you recu is chipped for an lsvtec, but not YOUR lsvtec. Go to the dyno for a tune like you plan and you will be fine.

Like Jay-Sensing said that ECU is chipped for an LS/VTEC but not your set-up, and the black smoke does mean an over abundance of fuel. you need to lean that bitch out and you will have a clear rear view and a power increase. i guess the two best options to control the fuel are either a VAFC or a stand-alone like Hondata, crome, or AEM EMS, this way you can change fuel maps and distribute fuel evenly acrossed the power band. im sure there are more options but these should be pretty cost effective.

thank alot guys for the help keep it coming, also what do you guys thing this setup will run once it is tuned right he has a 1 gen jdm sir tranny no lsd (same as ctr)

best thing is get it street tuned or on dyno. mine was the same. buddy has shop and we built tuning ecu. i get 38 mpg on the highway and still eat itr's all day.lol
