Default Need help putting a sump on the tank

Hey Guys, I want to install the full-race fuel sump on my EG gas tank. What's the best way of taking the tar off the bottom of the tank? My welder wants me to remove that black tar looking thingy first before he weld my sump on there. he said he don't want to smell that crap ha! ha! Can I remove it by using scraper or maybe die grinder? Please I need your advice if you don't mind. Thank you guys.

try acetone, or a scrape, or a combitnation. you can use a die grinder bu make sure there is no gas left in the tank becuase if you get a spark yu could have a fire.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll try using that aircraft remover and probably use the wire wheel to clean it all the way off.

All you really need is the wire wheel. Then just clean the bare metal with some acetone.

all I used was one of those rough textured, red in color, grinding pads.. It took it down to bare metal in a just a few passes.. Worked great! Oh I got it at Autozone I think..

that stuff works GREAT!!! used it a little while ago, the undercoating/tar just scrapes right off. just make sure you have a trash can with a bag in it as it will make a mess if you don't have someplace to put the gunk. wire wheel works fine, but makes everything in a 10 ft. radius covered in the undercoating ( I still have a shirt with the stuff on it from like 6 monthes ago )
