Default H23A...No Mods....What to do?....

I run a 92 lude h23a with no mods whatsoever in the oval. The problem is that the class I run is a claiming division where my car can be purchased, with some stipulations of course, by another driver for 1000 dollars. What will get me the most bang for my buck. 1/3 mile oval, I run 2nd gear the entire time, rev out at about 7000 right before the turns, HELP!!!

You can go internal, just no turbo and no supercharger, but bare in mind, you dont want to give away $2000 worth of engine mods, not to mention the rest of the car, for the $1000 claim. Its there to keep Bill Gates from deciding he wants to race and bringing a $20,000 car to the track and waxing us po-folks, and it also definitely makes you get creative.

Well, some cams + valvetrain + simple bolt-ons + tuning would be about the best thing you could do for more power on an H23.

Maybe Crower stage 2 or 3 cams, Rocket valvetrain (springs, retainers), intake, Megan header (cheap and effective), some sort of tuning device (Hondata is good but a bit overkill, Crome, etc), plus a good tune up would get you some good NA power. Also, if you can some lightweight wheels and an 8lb Fidanza flywheel would do you good.

And what kind of power increase could I expect by just changing to h22 pistons?

not enough to be worth it, because you'll need more then just the pistons.

The pistons aree suppose to raise the compression to nearly 12:1 right?

H23 VTEC, done properly, is more money than it's worth, at least in your position, although I've seen some nice setups. But fast, cheap, and reliable don't necesary go hand and hand. Port and polish the IM, about a 68 MM TB, simple intake, thenhead work. Crower stage 2s with the v-train upgrade (required with the cams), then tune. That much will cost enough but will get results. I also reccomend a header and exhaust. Besure to do the 2.5" collector mod on the header.

Not exactly. The other racers are welcome to buy any car on the track for 1000.00. Winner included. Keeps it cheap.

How about one of those ebay megan headers? Might be able to find some inexpensive regrinds on ebay or the H-T classifieds.

How much is your time worth? There are some cheap things you can do to the block, but it takes time to tear down an engine.

My exhaust is cut just before the cat and ran out the side. Do I need backpressure?
