I´m wondering if new valvetrain components can cause a kind of "break in noise"?

For example after installing new cams. Can this cause scratching noise?

My thought were that the cam lobes do not run on the exact same area on the rockerarm as the former oem cams.... what maybe could cause noises.

Or the part of the cam that contols the cam´s axial play. This could also cause scratching noise from the cam caps?

Any oppinions about that?

 

I've yet to hear scratching from a rebuild.

If you're on a part that hasn't been worn by your former setup, you'll eventually wear it down after xx miles but not right away. Remember oil is there to keep parts from not touching each other

 

I disassembled some parts of the head and and it looks as if I found the reason.

I took out the cams and checked them. They reamed some material from the cam caps that sits next to the distributor and next to the VTECvalve.
It reamed a good amount of material from the area that holds the cam in its axial position.

Then I mesured this part of the new cam and compared it to the former OEM cam.
This area was 0.004" wider that the OEM cam.
Then I checked the rest of these cams and noticed that the cam diameter at some areas was 0.0015" more than on the same areas of the OEM cam.

In all areas where the cam diameter was bigger than stock the cam caps and head are worn out a little more that before.

I cleaned everything and reinstalled the former OEM cams and everything seems to be fine now. No strange noise anymore.

A lot a of money that I trow out of the window when I made my decision for these companys stuff. :-(
But now I know more than before :-)
