Default Coolent Leaking *pics*

Hey I have a 1994 Ls, auto. I recently noticed some coolent leaking around where the head and block meet. I was thinking headgasket maybe... but there isn't any loss in power that I can tell its an old slow car anyway, no white smoke, and the oil isn't watery. There is a piece where the upper radiator hose connects to which is above the area where the coolent is pooling maybe there is a gasket that needs to be changed?

clean off area real well

then turn on car and see if you can notice where its coming from

also make sure its not dripping of anything and just landing there.

Thats exactly what I did. Frist, I had the car idle for maybe 10min after cleaning it off, no coolent was leaking. Second, I drove the car about 3 miles, returned home to find no coolent leaking. Last, I drove about 50 miles and when I returned home it looked like this. There is a small amount of coolent around where the upper radiator hose connects to the head. But it was only a small small amount and there was not a trail leading down to the pooling area. Is there a gasket or maybe some sort of liquid sealent used on that piece where the upper radiator hose meets the the head?

any spot that metal connects to metal on your block there should have some kind of gasket, specially if its carrying fluids.

so if that piece doesnt have a gasket then i guess you found your problem

Im having the timing belt/ waterpump replaced next weekend, when the coolent is drained I'll check out the gasket on that upper radiator hose piece.

follow the trail of water back up. usually its a cracked hose.

You can always get that leak detector stuff from the parts store. You put it in and run the car. Run a black light to find the source. Cheap way, but it takes a bit of time.

dude, jsut because you dont have a loss in power, and theres no smoke, does NOT mean you dont have a blown headgasket. They gasket may still be sealing around the cylinders, and its just leaking outside.

What are of the block is this, underneath the intake manifold or throttle body perhaps? If so, check the intake manifold gasket and the hose running from the intake manifold to the throttle body.

I never said it wasn't the headgasket, I said I wasn't sure, this is why I getting other opinions. The picture is where the head meets the block under the upper radiator hose housing.
