Both will retain their value long enough for you to sell them for nearly what you bought them for and get your 8th gen.
but i was wondering with one would be better just to modify it a little like intake exhust...etc. nothing to much just a little scraper for now
If you're only going to have it for a short period of time leave it alone.
Doing mods to it will just decrease the amount of potential buyers when you sell it, and depreciate the value of the car.
For example:
modded civic with 100k miles = $5000
Clean unmolested civic with 100k miles = $5500-$6000
Just for reference, that's how blue books usually price cars.

i would love to get a 2000 civic si but i have to get a newer car like 04 and up and have to buy from the same dealership its all a big bunch of bull if you ask me but all the same its what i have to do to get a 08 so i guess its what im gonna do..
How about not buying from a STEALRSHIP.
Buy whatever car you want from a local. And when the time comes buy the FIRST used 08 civic that you see.
A civic with 5,000 miles on it is the best way to buy one. You miss out on paying for all the depreciated, and it's in the same or nearly the same condition it was when it was new.
