Should I keep the Civic or get rid of it?
I have this big dilemma. I have a 94 Civic DX coupe 5 sp which I got a couple of months ago. I also want a fast badass car. I know it sucks in stock form so obviously I'm going to mod it.
But should I keep the civic or work my *** off over the summer and get a better car? I'm torn because I'm beginning to like this car, but on the other hand it would take a lot of money to make fast, and I could get a better platform to build on. I'm going for a quick Auto X good handling and speed car.
I just want to be 100% commited to what I'm going to do. Help me cause the modding bug is itching me!

if ur lookin for cheap 10sec car, get a 5.0 and juice it (maybe), if you want handling, spend the money and get a good setup for the civic and i think you will be happy. I have found that this is the most expensive hobby ever so speed takes money, get used to it

woops, I thought 4-door! In that case, I would keep the coupe. There are a few people who race coupes on here and have good luck with them. If I'm not mistaken, Dr. Cortez has an EK coupe that he Auto-X's with.

I have a friend who is a multi-millionare. He has enough money that he doesn't have to do anything the rest of his life. He owns Green Filters, Easton Off-Road, Ground Force, and a few other chain of shops and products. Anyways hes a huge auto cross finatic, and he autocrosses almost everyday in his car. Which is upgraded everything but it's a fifth gen civic coupe. He has access to pretty much any car he'd ever want. Has a few ferraris, lambos ... etc but autocrosses his Civic. Someone that is that into autocross would only use the best since he has unlimited funds. So maybe hte Civic isn't such a bad base to start it on. Anyways just some ideas, its late and this may not make sense. Good luck

mouse I know it's an expensive hobby, and I'm fine with that. It's just that I'm undecided if I should spend that money on a Civic or get a better base to start out with. Thanks for the replies
PS I don't care for drag racing, so I don't care for a 10 sec car. I want an all around performer.

well, my suggestion would be to search on this board and find the guys with the coupes, they can help you out and tell you if it is a good base or not. Your best bet would be to ask this question in the road racing/autocross forum. Best of luck to you.

Stick with the Civic. If you want a well rounded and fairly inexpensive car to work on, have fun in, and make go fast keep the Civic. I'm just starting to build up my '94 CX and it's a blast. The best part about it is that it is fairly quick to start, it has good suspension geometry, it's light, it has pretty much no electronics, and I think they look great.
Most newer cars don't have the wealth of available parts that the Civic does or the support from the market that the Civic and Integra's share. In fact to reduce the cost of modifications to mine, I've turned to the abundance of cheap ITR and GSR parts.

I think you have the right car. My last Civic Dx was pretty much stock motor wise but had plenty of suspension work and it did and ( my bud bought it) still does great at autoxing.
It now sports an R swap and is also pretty fast. Theyre super easy to work on and imo are very sweet looking cars even in near stock trim.
Personally I went back to the the eg but I still like the coupes.

if you want something fast, buy a stang. i bought my civic because nothing compares to 8200 rpm shifts, and its just a blast to drive. id keep the civic.

This is my first car, and I hated it at first because all the guys at school are driving Beamers, Benzes, 350Z, Imprezas, RX7's etc. And this was all I could afford, cuz I'm only 17. But after a few monthes of working on it, I've begun to fall for it. I really like it now. Thanks guys for reassuring me.

One thing I have learned from my friends at school owning nice cars is that, mommy and daddy bought them there cars and they did jack **** to earn it....flat out I dont respect that. Think about how nice it will be when people stop and say nice civic after you have put all "YOUR" money, blood, and sweat into that car. Those other kids just don't know what there missing, the reward for buying your own **** and doing it yourself, to me, is something unbelievable. Take care, and good luck!
