Default Howdy

I recently acquired a 1999 prelude and think its the **** .... ive been checkin out these forums and read the whole turbo thread bored at work ... sometime in the future i would like to boost my lude but i think im gonna wait till i have enough cash to go all out and do it right... for the moment im just tryin to get a few extra hp out of my car and gotta few questions... the car came with an intake uninstalled .. i put it in but it looks like the stock airbox pulls air from the front of the car somewhere while this intake just draws from the engine bay... while it definately sounds cooler and im sure flows better than stock is there really any performane gain since its suckin in hot air ?

You will get different opinions on it, but usually you will get a pretty similair gain. The cold air intakes go down in the fender for air, but here in Colo that can also be bad news in rain or snow. Since you just got a lude going, check out our local board, COPRELUDE.COM . Free to join up as well, and we are always willing to help with advice, tech matters, help with work, etc. We have guys ranging from bone stock cars to 300-800 hp turbo and supercharged cars, as well as both drag and autocross racers. Also we do meets, cruises bbq's etc!

welcome

there was a intake dyno comparison done by 98vtec which showed nothing significant, but a cold air wasnt tested which was believed to yield most gain over the ones tested. i would say stick with a cold air for now until someone tests it and then go from there. Im in TN and we dont get alot of snow but we get decent rains and both my ludes run cold air no bypass valve and ive yet to have a issue with water and the cold air *knock on wood* just my .02

Just got to throw this out there.......
A CAI is ideal because cooler air=more hp.
If youre going to run a CAI bypass you may as well just run a short ram intake. Any power gained from the CAI will be lost by the bypass. Not a Prelude but on the dyno my friends 350z with i/h/e lost 7whp/5tq form the bypass.
