Brake spec info re: 96-00 Civics
No, the dx / lx had smaller 9.5" front brake rotors and smaller calipers / pads.
The ex / si had 10.3" front rotors with larger calipers / pads.
The dx / lx / ex had rear drums.
The si had rear disc brakes.

awesome, thanks for clearing that up. I'm guessing it's a simple caliper swap and disc swap that needs to be done to the dx/lx to get it up to "EX spec"?

no. You need to get the EX / Si front knuckles if you want to upgrade. The reason being is, the caliper mounting bracket sits out further on the ex / si knuckles (b/c of the larger diameter rotor).
