Default DX vs EX/Si front brakes

How much bigger are the EX/Si front brakes compared to the DX? Is it worth the upgrade? I plan on getting either Ex or Si (heard they are the same) and then get better brakes and pads.

dx/cx came with 9.5" in the front, the ex/si cames with 10.3" (rotors)

Is it worth it? Depends on how you drive. If you want to be safer, don't drive so fast. If you just want to be cool, sure why not lol. But I strongly recommend keeping the stock rotors and just getting better pads. Honda designed your brakes to be sufficient. The SI/EX brakes also will be heavier so it's a if you don't have any real mods to your car; intake headers exhaust aren't gonna give you enough power to need bigger brakes.

Car still weighs like what, 2600lbs? lol. Though after its boosted I could see it be somewhat necesary. In that case do an Integra brake swap from the FAQ thread. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=152884

I have Brembo OEM rotors with AEM pads on my EJ6. Works like a dream.

I really love that rational -
"Im making more power, so I better increase my braking"
The car still weighs the same amount, guys... Unless youre racing (and that better be real, legal racing) the car still slows down at the exact same ratio it did when it made 105 hp. Only reason larger brakes make sense is for fade or brake surface in racing.
9/10 the stock brakes are going to be just fine.
I swapped on integra calipers, 1" mc/bb and all that jazz a few years ago. Know what I got from that? Not much, really..just less $

If you just have to swap your brakes, search - this topic has been beaten to death.
However, i suggest you try better pads and stickier tires before you jump on the I-need-bigger-brakes bandwagon

(although, i want to say 'thank you' for at least acknowledging that ex and si are the same )

x2 for trying out the stock brakes with better tires.

The car only stops as well as the tires are good.

True. Try stopping on 13" baldies on a rainy day in Seattle.

this is the exact same question i got - but everyone cleared it up for me... looks like i'll just give myself less work and keep the stockers...and get new rotors/pads when the time comes.

dude listen to pdiggity, he knows his $hit...

plus upgrading ur dx brakes to ex/si brakes is gonna make about as much a difference as leaning to the right when u fart or leaning to the left....

i just did a rear disc swap onto my car not to long ago which is forcing me to swap out my old busted master cylinder an prop valve to a 15/16" 91 civic ex sedan MC "works with my stock brake booster " and 40/40 prop valve instead of the 30/40 that was on there...

from all the research and help i've gotten "tons from pdiggity" that is the setup i've chosen to go with, an from the way it sounds "besides doing the 1" gsr/itr MC/BB swap" its gonna be the biggest upgrade for my brake system with all OEM parts.. GL tho on whatever u do...

I love Hawk HPS.

The marketplace here has a good deal on bremobo blanks and X brakepad.

one has Hawk hps, the other has another popular one.

If you're just going to do street driving, then just follow the advice given and go w/ a nice set of street pads + tires. You don't even need to switch out your rotors unless they are warped/worn.

I have Hawk HPS with some Autozone blanks on my EJ8 coupe. They work great. Previous rotors were warped, so I had reason to replace mine.

What's the difference from those rotors and Brembo's?

Brembo's are magic.

It's all in the name, I'd say brembo blanks might be less prone to heating as quickly due to differen't composition/make.

Brembos > autozone's but the difference isn't mind bottleing.

I can't see when you'd have a problem with brakes overheating in normal street driving.

Exactly.

So if you track your car I'd pay the little exrtra for brembos.

Or jsut pay the extra just to say you have brembos.

You're welcome for the machined brakes Zero, hope there doing well.

Yes bigger brakes are better, but you need to consider how you are going to be driving. Most people grow more of a lead foot with bigger engines. Yes bigger brakes are heavier, but if you notice is another question.
It is possible to have a DX with good pads outbrake the same car with EX front brakes and a pad made for longevity, not performance. If you are happy with your brakes now, go buy some better pads. If you are planning on racing, the 9.5" rotor is a bit small of a heatsink and I will reccomend bigger brakes for fade issues.

Regarding rotors, you can read this I wrote: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1437507

It doesnt matter much, so long as its a blank rotor, don't go with cross drilled unless the car doesnt brake enough to fade and you have race pads on the road and live in a cold climate and want to get upto operating temperature faster (what are the odds, right vactor??)

If this car is a daily driver and you're not any harder on the brakes, the bigger rotors are going to really only affect your MPG cause of the added rotational mass, though it may be a very minute change.

This all being said, take any money you wanted to spend on bigger brakes and spend it all on good tires first. Tires dictate EVERYTHING. stock brakes and good pads with good tires is preferable over big *** brakes on crap tires.
