i'm about to install a field sfc and the diagram says that i should use eliectrotap for the ignition power and RPM signal

Regardless of what the instructions say, you should solder your connections. The ignition can be tapped into at the distributer or the ignition harness. It's a thick black/yellow wire. The tach wire is a small dark blue wire at the distributer or the diagnostic plug.

If you don't have a distributer... well you should have told us what kind of car you have.

i drive a honda crx with a d15b vtec swap, if u tell me what does the electrotap do for the wires(circut)

its no joke, correct me if im wrong, a tap is just an easy way of "tapping" into the desired wire with out cutting the actual wire, etc... but for almost anything that needs constant or consistant voltage or amperage. or whatever you want to make sure that you make a very good and solid connection, thats why he says to solder it... practice makes perfect...
