x2

If you want to upgrade your D series and you don't want to waste your money, you should look more into suspension upgrades. They'll allow you to just hug the corners and enjoy your ride, which will make it seem faster/more agile.

get shocks and coilovers, camber kit, lca's swaybars etc...
15s or 16s on an EG.
headers will do and brake wise just upgrade rotor and pads.
lil things here and there and ur set meanwhile the engine comes!!

My advice to you is to do some good reading on a well-balanced suspension setup for your driving style. We can't really tell you what to go for because we don't know what you drive like. However, we can suggest what has worked in the past.

15's and 16's are good sizes for our small cars; light, and effective with the proper tires.

Now, I can suggest a good coilover system, but they are expensive due to the quality and moving parts. They have their advantages, since you can adjust ride height, and even stiffness on some kits, to your driving style.

There are also chassis stiffening bars you can look into, such as tie/sway/tower bars/braces. Those will significantly effect your handling, and are well worth their money, but moreover as a balanced system. There's plenty of other threads that I suggest you read up on to help you upgrade your car, but I can't go through all of them for ya.

As for the brake upgrade, I'd suggest you go fast, before you find that you need to stop fast. Go for the turbo kit first, if that's what you want to do. These little light cars can stop pretty well on their OEM setups until you get into the heavier upgrades.

Well, what you need to do to remain cost-effective, is to commit to your plan of going turbo. If you do in fact go turbo, you're not going to want to waste crucial money, or time getting any N/A header, so I'd suggest against that.

As for the suspension your bud got from eBay, you can get good products from eBay, but they need to be the brand names synonymous with quality products. Suspension isn't something you'll want to cheap out on, and suspension can get expensive if you get into it. If you want to go budget for the strut and tie bars, but retain some good quality, look into NRG bars. Have them in my car, and I love them. For shocks/springs, I myself have Ground Control shocks with Skunk2 springs. The ride's a little stiff, but no blown shocks, so I like it.

You're clutch selection should be relative to your whp goals. I've just got a stage 1 organic exedy disc style, which is rated to I think 220 whp, which is fine for my applications. It's all about your whp goals, and the aggressiveness of your setup, as is the situation with your piston thoughts.

you have a lot of reading to do. Turbos don't give certain amounts of horsepower.

Certain motors with certain turbo and trim size with certain wastegates, certain turbo manifolds, certain exhaust, and certain tuning gives certain horsepower.

So many variables come in to play if we guessed for you we could easily be off be 40 horsepower on either side.

You want my advice? Get a cool suspension and wheels, then save up and have double what you want to spend before you spend it. That way nothing gets done half ***.

If you like turbos, get the suspension done, buy a b18b and turbo that. The motor/turbo setup done right can be done for under $4000 if you do the motor swap yourself.
