Ok first of all... I'm new here so if this was talked about before dont hate! Also the search button is down and i tried a couple times...
Went to walmart and lowes tonight to get a extra key made for my 97 prelude.. They said they can't cut it because of a chip inside it..
Are they right? What are my options? Thanks

crazy! I just got one done last weekend at Honda, it cost me $38 for the key and they made it on the spot right there! I got it back in 10 minutes, they even went out to my car and tested to make sure it worked. they will have the keys in stock I'm sure, and will have no problem making it. Just make sure you have your registration for the car and your ID. They verify it, then make you a key. Not a bad deal

we've all established this.

because of how much it cost. I paid only $38 for the key, cut to my car, and in my hand out the door.

You should check with Pop-A-Lock. They cut keys of just about any type. Laser cut, Transponders, Programmable, etc. They have a website you can locate the nearest location with: http://www.popalock.com/key_cutting.php

Anyway, most locksmiths these days have computers that can program keys with transponders in them. Or, you can go to the dealer. These cars do need the red key, and I believe any other keys you have. They wipe the computer with the red key, then program all the keys together
All you need to do is GET A 'T5' KEY AT THE DEALER. This key will self program itself the first time it is used (no red key required!). The car can remember up to FIVE keys.
