tell me if this is a stupid question...PLEASE
so i hav this group of friends "people that i know" that im not really friends with if you know what i mean. and i have a D16Y8. ok, and i hav shown the motor to all of them and they are not beliving that i have Vtec. i think that they are just ignorant, but just to make shur im not having a nightmare sombody clarify that if i hav a Vtec solonoid that means that i have Vtec and if i dont i, do not have vtec.
sounds like yoiur haning out with some idiots. i wouldnt make a big deal out of a Y8 with vtec. force feed that suckker and then talk **** all day
Here is what you do...
1. Open your hood
2. Ask them to look very closely at the VC and to the left of it
3. Slam the god damn hood on their heads and sit on it and proceed to ask them if you have VTEC

your spark plugs are in the front right? a good way to tell a nonvtec from vtec without the cover saying it is the plug position....if your plugs are up front, then you probably have vtak

I agree That's the way to do it yo. Do that and they might even say you have a 350.

hahaha
To the op why would have a vtec solenoid and to vtec??? Assuming you still have the stock head on the Y8 then yes you have vtec.

Um... what?
DX (D16Y7 - SOHC non-VTEC)

EX (D16Y8 - SOHC VTEC)

The obvious differences will include the VTEC solenoid (described above) and the intake tubing and manifold.

You do have VTEC EX model d engines are not labeled but the VTEC soleniod should be proof enough for them. If they cant figure it out by that then dont waste your time they prob look at any motor and have the expression of a monkey trying to expletive a football on their face...

The only problem with showing them the VTEC solenoid, is that it doesn't say, "This is where the VTEC is," on it. So there's a good chance they won't believe him even if he shows them.

Yes, you have VTEC.
Have 'em write down ur engine code and google it when they get home.
I mean I SUPPOSE a VTEC solenoid doesn't ALWAYS mean you have VTEC (it could not be hooked up or something) - but you do need the VTEC spool solenoid to have VTEC so play it as you wish.
The reason why they don't think u have VTEC is because
A) There's no "VTEC" on the cylinder head cover like the DOHC VTEC engines
B) You can't really hear VTEC crack like you can like a B16 or GSR.
If you listen to ur exhaust note closely, it changes COMPLETELY around 5500 RPM - about 5-800 after VTEC engages. Though whatever, if they don't believe u, they don't believe you, they're just stupid.
I'd seriously show them the engine code - and tell 'em to google it when they get home.
There, I just went to http://www.google.com, typed "D16Y8 specs" and clicked the FIRST link.
I got this:
http://www.jdmenginesamurai.co...8.htm
Which tells you it's VTEC.
It's pretty known, if they don't know it, they just don't know it
.
They probably are under the impression that all VTEC engines say VTEC on the cylinder head cover.
