How do I find out if I have LSD Transmission?

if both tires spin, u got lsd... if not, u got a peg leg
if both tires spin, u got lsd... if not, u got a peg leg
if you jack up your front of the car, put it in neutral, and spin one of the front tires, if the other tire spins the same way as the other one you got lsd if it goes the opposite way you dont got lsd. Or if you look where your axles go into your tranny and can see right through it then you got lsd if there is a bar through that hole you dont got lsd. i learned this from a thread that was posted a couple of days ago.

my tranny is factory lsd HELICAL style and if i spin my front wheel one way the other spins the other way. only clutch style or "viscious" (spelling) style spin the same direction when spinning one wheel.

my single cam d series did NOT have lsd, and if i did a burnout BOTH my wheels DID spin, so this statement isnt true either

did they spin evenly tho? sometimes they will both spin, but only for a little bit, unless one side is getting more traction than the other. if it does spin, it wont for long.

Most of the reply's on this post are incorrect.
If your car is balanced and you are on flat pavement both tires will burnout the exact same amount.
Spinning tires when jacked up: open diffs and all LSD's will spin tires either one way or another, if only one tire spins you have bigger problems than wondering if you have an LSD or not.
You will have to remove your axles to find out if you have an LSD and even then that is not always true. but for 90% of the LSD's out there you should be able to LOOK STRAIGHT THROUGH and see the other side. If you can see through you have an LSD. If you cant you might but odds are you don't.

These are all helpful comments except for that ebay one.... but...I don't have the car yet. It's being imported from Japan, and the guy that's importing the car for me doesn't know how to determine but looking if it has LSD. Is there no written code or stamp on the transmission to tell if it has factory fitted lsd?
If not, and the car doesn't have an LSD, how much am I lookin at to buy one, and is it best to match the LSD with the clutch/flywheel/etc?
thank you
p.s. It's a JDM B16A in a 1994 EG6 SIR2

take axles out. if you can see straight through the diff, then you have lsd, if you see a bar in it. then you have open...
