This is my first time on here. I have a 95 Civic DX, and a B16A2 swap. I bought water pump part# 19200-P72-013 from honda. I did searches and found that others use this pump too. My question is about the pump mounting. My old one #19200-P30-003 has two dowel pins to locate the pump on the block, while the 19200-P72-013 does not. Is this okay, or should I get the P30 pump? Any reply would be appreciated, Thanks.

 

i won't say it wouldn't work, but i would want to see those dowels, especially on an OE honda part.

if they look identical otherwise, just try to swap the dowels over to the new pump and put it on. be pretty careful not to damage the dowels when you pull them out.

 

Hera are photos of the two pumps. They both have all necessary holes, and the o-ring shape is irrelevant. I placed the dowels along side the holes they go in on the old pump, and as you can see the holes on the new one are not large enough. (I ordered a pump for 99-00 Si from majestic honda, and it is the same # as ITR Pump #19200-P72-013)

Looks like you have three options, from easiest to hardest:

1. - install without the dowels and rely on the bolts to keep the pump in the correct location.

2. - cut the dowel in half so that it will fit in the block-side dowel holes, and not allow extra play in that side of the bolts, and just create a flush-mount install surface.

3. - Best bet, would be VERY CAREFULLY drilling out those two mount holes to the appropriate size of the dowel. just use some calipers and measure the dowels to find the right sized drill. just make sure you drill in far enough so that the dowel can fully fit in without leaving a gap between the pump and the block, but don't drill it all the way through or else the dowel could slide out of the block and shift the pump.

 

i would not recommend drilling the dowel holes at all unless you have a really good drill press and the correct reamer for doing this. a drill and set of calipers is not accurate enough to do something like this. find the right part or just try to bolt up without dowels.

 

Yeah, I did counterbore the two holes to .3125 This isn't a problem since I work in a machine/welding shop. I was really just trying to find out in anyone else has seen this. When I searched for b16 water pump I found a few topic where others were running type R pumps on b16. Though I didn't get this pump on purpose, I ordered a 99-00 SI, which is 19200-P72-013 (same as itr), when I need 19200-P30-003 (del sol, 90-93 gsr). I just wonder why these newer pumps don't use dowels.

you'll be fine with out the dowels' there is only one way the pump can go on. it's the bolts you have to worry about. make sure when you remove the bolts you put them EXACTLY where they came from.

as for the 2 different part # on the pumps.

the P72 pumps are the same for the P30 pumps, with the exception of the timing belt gear. they are off by 3 teeth (i think, but i know they are off). the P30 pumps are usually found in older B16 and B18 motors. they are common in the 94-95 del sol (B16a3) and jdm b16's.
