Default Grills???

i have a 99 civic ex coupe and i heard that the grill is two peaces the painted frame and the black plastic backing that has the Honda logo on it. is this true? I would also like to replace the black backing or whole grill with a black mesh backing. so can i jus buy the plastic mesh backing and pop it in or do i have to buy the whole thing and paint it? Also where can i find a good price and what styles look good? thanks for any pics and advice

Yes, the grille is multi-piece.

I've never seen a place where you can buy the real CTR/Si back mesh only. Since it's probably multi-piece too though, you could just swap the front painted part onto the CTR/Si mesh backing.

Is there any difference between a Si grill and a Ebay mesh grill? Other than ones real and ones fake? Can you tell a difference?

Maybe someone else can say. I've never taken an Si grille or an eBay grille apart.

Yes there is a difference. Ive got both. Its hard to explain, my Si grill's mesh part is sharper and my replica ABS ctr grill is smoother.
replica ctr grill

but anyways no you cant really tell the difference. Even if someone notices, theres no shame in a abs replica ctr grill. Also, replica grills are made of ABS so Si's grill will last you longer although grill dont break often. But id go for the $30 replica unless you find a Si grill floating around in the marketplace.

the problem with the metal mesh is that when flying rocks hit it when you drive it will create noticable dents. my friend had one.

I used black gutter guard in mine, the mesh they sent was bent up.

That's what I was going to do, but the frame on the EXs, DXs, etc is thinner on the bottom than the Si/Type R grills.

Notice how thin the frame is below the H.

It has alot more depth and goes farther back towards the mesh on the Si grill.

i traded a guy on here for a grill because it looked good in pictures, but it was a PIECE! I don't know if it came from ebay or what but the holes are too small to fit it in place and the girll is made out of fiberglass. I really got screwed, I'll admit it.
