Easiest way to put fan on switch
I've got a switch I would like to use for my fan. I would just like to be able to turn it on manually if needed. I dont have ANY cooling issues, infact, when I was on the dyno we did 4 back to back runs, and my temp gauge just hit the mark past half. And the fan they're supposed to blow onto your car, it was turned off by accident. ANYWAYS, besides all that non related stuff, I want to install a switch, that will also work in line with my stock switch. Although, I've NEVER seen my fan on, my engine never gets hot enough I dont think. Even when getting on it around town, im 60% of the time only on the 1st 1/4 blip.
But in my old car before this, it was easy. All you did was ground the switch, and run the other line to a relay in the fuse box under the hood and you were done. Is it this simple on a 4th gen? I REALLY dont want to have to run a hot wire to the switch, I had bad luck once doing that and caught the line on fire.
Worst case, what im thinking about doing is running a hot wire from the fuse box (since battery is in trunk), right to the fan, totally avoiding stock wires. Then running the ground of the fan to my switch, then to a ground. I realize this would make the stock system no longer work and it'd be 100% manual, but like I said I've never seen my fan come on anyways. its a 1550cfm slimfan im running now

don't run a hot wire to the switch, that is what relays are for
, you might have to get a universal relay from a store and find a place to mount it, but that shouldn't be too hard

Tap into the fan relay in the underhood fusebox with a circuit going to a switch. There are I think 4 terminals when you unplug the relay, the two to the right are what needs to be tapped into. Connect a wire from one terminal to one terminal of the switch, then another wire from the switch to the other terminal of the relay. Basically what happens is the switch, when on, will bypass the normal circuit and relay. The line is still protected and everything works as normal with the switch off.
Takes 10 minutes to do!
This is what I did when my fan module broke, worked fine for months.
I don't really know much electrical terminology so sorry if this sounds obscure, lmk if it helps.
