First take a jumper wire to the fan switch to see if it kicks on, if it does, all you need is a new fan switch. If you don't want to buy a fan switch, just tape up the jumper wire and it will stay on.

If the fan doesn't turn on when you jump the fan switch, take a jumper wire directly to the fan and see if the fan isn't burnt out itself. If it works, then your relay or wiring should be checked.

As for a switch, many have done it, but do you really want to take a chance of forgetting to turn it on and burning up your engine? A simple search should tell you how to wire it, this has been covered.

Check the fan fuse in the engine bay fuse box. It's the 20A fuse next to the back-up fuse, closest to the windshield cowl.
