Default speedo problem

Hello im new to the boards
anyway I just bought my friends 1992 honda civic lx and the speedo does dont work, thought maybe it was the speed sensor so i changed it out with a new one still not working. When i took the old one out there was some brown sticky stuff on the little key thing, tried turning the key by hand in the tranny but would not turn i'm not sure if I should beable to turn it by hand or not any ideas?

no speedo.......

no CEL (Check enginoe light) = dead speedometer head.......

with CEL #17 VSS issue, either a bad/dirty connection (99% of the time) or bad sensor.

Not hooking up the AC won't throw a CEL.

Check your codes, see what codes you're throwing:
