Default K&N drop-in filter

Bought the R a couple months ago, so it's still bone stock I wanna buy some mods for it, but they're not cheap so I'm gonna get what I can afford to spend for now. The only mods I plan for the R is I/H/E right now(maybe cams, Toda A's?, later on) and keep it N/A. so I'm starting off with a minor mod to the intake and saving up for a Toda 4-2-1 header.

Ordered a K&N drop-in filter today from Partsource. Was going to get the Comptech intake and Icebox setup, but too expensive and not sure if the gains are worth the money spent. The intake on the R is like a CAI of sorts already. I did a search and saw a thread that showed a '00 R dynoed 1.8whp gain with just a K&N drop-in, and praising the K&N upgrade. Not much power, but good enough for $85 USD. Plus there's no dyno in or near the Canadian hick town that I live in. Hopefully i can feel the gains, but I'm not counting on it. But it's good to know that the K&N will do a better job of filteration than the cloth one.

With the K&N filter, will the icebox fit if i choose to buy one later on? Without having to buy Compech's foam filter upgrade?

Let me know what u guys think. Thanks in advance

Yes, you can use it with the Comptech ICEBOX.

A guy here dyno'd the K&N and stock filter back to back and found no gains.

Remove the stock resonator. Or bust it up and make your own "CAI." It's been done before - others on here can tell you how.

I dyno'd the drop in on 2 different R's and made .5-1.5 hp with the drop in. On the same 2 cars I removed the resonator and lost between 2-6 hp.

AEM picked up 3.5-5 hp and Iceman 2.5-3 hp. Never had an iceman to test.
